Default Rear hatch release help

My hatch has stopped releasing. I searched the forum and found a couple members who said to try adjusting the lever by loosening the two bolts on outside of plate and move up and also repositioning the lever on the black circle. by removing screw and positioning at about 2pm from TDC.. Sorry don't know the proper terms of the parts.

anyways, still no luck.. If I remove the male unit from completely from the hatch and push down into female plunger and latch, it will release when I pull the release with no problems, but as soon as a install it back in hatch.. no luck. Roger briefly looked at it last weekend at GTG and thought the parts looked ok. Including the part on the male end that moves back when the lever moves. I've tried to loosen both the male and the female and reposition too.

any ideas of what to try next?

thanks

Actually it was ColinB's post. search "finally my hatch releses"

How do you include a previous post link to a message??
thanks

Is there any slack in the link from the motor to the release arm? There is a nylon bush at the arm end inside the link, and it is common for these to die and fall out as debris, which leaves enough slack to stop proper operation. If you do have this slack, remove the receiver, file off the peening so you can remove the arm, make a new bush with some tubing of right size (5mm hole, 7mm od, 2mm wide), drill a hole in the arm, tap some thread (2-56 will work, or M2, depending on what screws and tap you can get), retain arm with a screw and washer. I make brass bushes to fix this case as needed by other 928'ers here.

try taking a piece of plastic about 1mm thick and placing it along the rear edge of the male part ( IE it fits between the hatch surface anf the male rear edge) this tilts the bottom forward slightly this may cure the problem

Be careful, as that thing can take your fingers off.

Wrap Zip ties around the cam driven by the motor that releases the tongue

Thanks Alan. This worked perfectly. I am attaching a pic. You can easily see blue zip ties.

Bring your zip ties to the next GTG and offer your services for free food 8>)
Nice job Travis - you will have to loose the newbie handle soon at this rate.

This technique works only if the reason for the failure to open is either very minor misalignment of the hatch backwards though this can also damage (crack) the hatch parts (top/bottom) OR as was intended for just usage wear of the white latching tab. It works perfectly for just the tab wear - and not much else will help that (except tab replacement) without creating new alighment issues.

I fitzted around with mine with all kinds of shims, etc. and gave up and bought the pricey unit just to get a new plastic piece. It's worked perfect from the minute I put it in.
