My front bumper cover is slowly starting to pull away - I can see the staples along the whole length of the black bead. Anyone know why this would happen and how to fix? Did a search but no joy. It is not loose, ie, I can't wiggle it or anything, but it is definitely pulling away from the front of the car. It is an MY86.
stables dont hold the bumper cover on
The staples only hold the beading to the bumper cover for installation.
If you want to fix this then remove the front cover and replace the beading and reinstall. otherwise your bumpercover is fine, but your beading is most likely broken down and coming apart. I did the replacement on the GT and the new beading made a huge difference. The parts only cost like $12 for an S4 (your car uses a much larger and longer beading material so maybe more)

are the bolts that hold the PU to the fenders installed? if not the PU and the trim seal will pull away, can you post a picture?

I know they don't. What I said was that they are visible, as the cover is pulling away from the anchoring points of the car. The cover was pulled and painted by a good shop about a year ago, and the bead, which as only about $12 or so, was replaced then. Maybe the fastners holding it on have become loose? The WSM does not have a good guide for fixing this. anyone have pics or a detailed description of the repair? ThnxOriginally Posted by RyanPerrella

Can you post a picture? I might send it to a friend who is an automotive paint expert and completely restored an early 928S. He might be able to give you some pointers.

I'll put one up this weekend. It is not noticable to the uninitiated, but very clear to see if you get up close and look. I wonder if it started to pull away when I go over bumps and "bottom out" the front end. I have the skid plates that I put on this past summer, but i wonder if the odd time when my front end bottoms out on a bump that it isn't somehow loosening the cover from its bolts?

your front end should not be bottoming out on anything, if it is a change of roads might be in order.
A picture should help with the PU seperation. PU = Poly Urethane cover , found on the front and rear of all 928s
If you can see staples it might be a good idea to open the fender block off plate and check your hardware tightness, its possible that a nut may have been left off on reinstalling of the Cover especially under/over the headlight area
