[SCAN] Porsche 928S vs Aston Martin V8 (Classic Cars Magazine May'01) [PICS]
I've scanned a 928 vs AMV8 article found in Classic Cars magazine back in May 2001. (My favourite magazine so far)
It's worh a reading.
For example, the text finish with:
"It all sounds too good to be true, but if Jon's experience is typical, an old 928 really is the bargain supercar buy of the moment. I mean, how much cheaper have they got to get?"
I hope not to break any copyright thing, this is not the intention of the post; this issue of that magazine is totally unavailable to buy, so this the only way to share this fantastic article with other 928 lovers.
BTW, is so, admins of course are free to delete the post or edit it as necessary.

And here they are the scans:

It's always amazing to see the 928 in the context of time. In the first 12 or so years of production, everything else looked totally backwards by comparison...

Thanks for posting that.
My father had an Aston exactly like that in his shop many times. Huge V-8 in there. Stunning car all the way around and I loved it. I have to agree with the author though on it's clunkyness. Never felt as refined as the 928.
Would still like to have one.

The AM looks old. The 928 doesn't.
But, I'm chemically bonded to the 928 so I'm blind.

Funny but I own both. The Aston has been much better as an investment and I would agree looks dated in original condition. The same can be said for 928's. They both benefit from updated wheels and tires. A good friend of mine who got me into Astons years ago just sold his early V8 that is an incredibly fast car, benefiting from 928 type upgrades. I have included some pictures of it. The pictures don't quite do it justice in terms of how aggressive it looks. The Aston like a 928 is very easy to drive fast. However it is much bigger and heavier. The Aston is a good weekend car the 928 something you can drive daily.http://www.steelwings.com/ViewClassic.aspx?id=187

Funny, thing about that front cover, is that in addition to owning a 928 and wanting an Aston V8 (ever since The Living Daylights), I almost bought a Jensen Healey!
Supposedly Morrissey had an Aston like that too, it was up for auction a couple years ago.

I have owned the AM and the Pantera as well as my 928. They are each very different cars and I am fond of them all. The Pantera was rough, raw and felt very fast and powerful. It was exotic looking and uncomfortable and felt very Italian. The AM does look kind of like a Mustang. It is very classic British in feel, yet extremely powerful. I has an aluminum skin over a steel tube body frame. All parts of the interior upholstery is very fine leather and the car smells of leather and wool.
All three are great cars in their own right.
