Default Your Opinion Is Needed (how to repair water leak)

On the engine cooling system, there are a few connections that are steel nipples that fit inside an aluminum piece. A hose slides over the nipples. An example of this is the water bridge. There is a small (7mm) hose that goes from the coolant fill tank to the water bridge. That connection has one of these steel/alum. connections. I have an engine where these steel nipples have come loose from the aluminum housing that they fit inside. The steel nipple is now loose and allows water to leak past. How do you reccomend I repair this. I have two ideas. One is to use high temp marine epoxy to seal it. The other is to try to solder it back together. Has anyone here tried either method before? If so how did it work out for you?

Thanks,

you ask for comments without pictures?
Thats like asking us to vote 1 - 10 on a lady's pic with just
"she has a great personality"

Anywho...
Try JB weld - after cleaning well. I repaired the unavailable heat exchanger on the perkins deisel and it has been over 10 years! Repaired everything from a Harley head to the John Deer.... stuff works great and is machinable too!

I can post pics but its not a very interesting looking item.

I tried JB weld to begin with so that I wouldn't have to remove the water bridge. It worked great until I leaned on it during some other teardown work. I have now pulled the water bridge and want to give it a permanant fix.

I wonder if there are any threaded fittings available somewhere that would allow you to thread the opening and screw in a new one? That's the direction I would go.

As bill said, find something next thread size up that you can still get the hose on (even if you have to turn down the nipple part a bit), tap new thread in the bridge, should work well. Try to find something less likely to corrode the alloy due to different metals, but I suspect that wont be easy.

Well its not threaded in stock form. It won't take much to thread it though. There are plenty of "push lock" fittings I can use since the hose sizes effected are relatively small.
