Default steering rack leak repair

1987 S4 auto, the steering rack has started leaking at the cover (2 bolts and an oval plate 2" long) that lies below the pinion. I started to remove the cover and found that there's a spring in there pushing against it, so stopped in case I damaged something! Anyone any experience with this? The cover seems to have a gasket on it, not sure if there's a seal inside. The main seals on the rack still seem good so not planning to replace it yet. Repair advice welcomed.
Thanks.

A steering rack repair kit is $65.
Is it RHD or LHD.

Hi Rog
A repair kit sounds just what I need then! It's a right hand drive. I'm planning to change the engine mounts as well, the engine sits up ok but I think they've gone hard as rock over the years - the car is very low mileage (would you believe 5800 ml over 21 years? The guy had a collection of porsche, ferrari, maserati etc. The car broke down one fine day (LH control unit) and he got rid of it!) To change mounts I reckon the rack has to come out so that'll be two jobs together. Thanks by the way for the input over some seat adjust drive bushes (earlier thread) I haven't made any progress with those, but the seats are back in for now so I can't take photos atm. Back to that repair kit; does it have (or need) any instructions?
Thanks again.
