Crazy mirror gremlins
Hey all, not seeking advice, I just had to share this very odd gremlin.
While working on the mirror controls today I found this, when I toggle the mirror joystick with the key on I notice the fuel pump running, stop toggle no pumping, wiggle the joystick, pumping. Just had to share, who knows what the PO may have done, gremlins are fun. If I figure it out I'll post results.
And anyone have a heated mirror glass cheap? One was broken when I bought the car.

check the mirror control switch for the correct wire connections, then the door haness connector for a wire that might have been spliced in , also check the plugs on the front of the CE panel

SOMETHINGS F&^CKED
Merlin from your words I gather that this is maybe not the strangest gremlin ever. I was guessing a grounding issue, I did find a wire in the harness that was cut, so some PO has been in there, the mirror was broken I am wondering if they cut it to disable the defrost circuit. Still chasing, I have a large caliber gremlin gun though so he will be dead soon.

Matthew,
This is a common quirk found on some of the early 924's. It could have been a factory design to bypass the fuel pump relay or it could just be a quirk from using wiring in common with the pump and mirror/rear hatch defoggers. It has been discussed on the www.924board.org .

Dennis that would be very enlightening if I was talking about my 924. This issue is with the 928. My 924 works perfect, relatively speaking. Perhaps a PO knew how to do the 924 thing and tried it on the 928.

Matthew,
Was aware it was on your 928 but the wiring systems on the mirrors and fuel pumps are very similar to the early 924's. Doubt that the PO would get into the looms and reroute and wiring.

Dennis, I didnt mean for that to sound like, "what you talkin bout Dennis".
I found 1 or 2 threads on the toofa forum, (never have liked searching that place) my first thoughts seem to be correct, its likely a grounding issue. Thanks for the comments.
