This is my 89 S4 sitting next to my brothers 05 Boxster S.....I was surprised how they compared in size. I think this statement that the 928 is a huge car is well exaggerated.

Now take pictures of a 928 and 944 together like that and tell me which is the whale. I mean neither of them look like whales to me, but if one does more than the other its the 944.

I was working on mine the other day, and thought the same thing. Then I rolled underneath to do some work and was reminded again how massive the suspension components are and how solidly this car is built. It's just on a different level than most cars.

Nice pictures of the two cars. It's not really fair, because the top is up on the Boxster, but IMHO, the 928 looks much better. I'd drive a Boxster around town on nice sunny days, though.

Its funny. I loved my 951 and my daughter must have told me she hated me 100 times the day the new owner came and picked it up.Now she only talks about the 928. When I took the 928 to work for the first time, everyone told me how much nicer it looked than the turbo. Who knows.

Not to get into an argument but

Boxster Curb Weight: 2987 lbs
928 Curb Weight: 3593 lbs

That is where the bloated part comes from. As for Whale it's probably just due to the bulbous shape of the 928 that generate that image to me - especially at the rear. If the car had more angular dimensions it would lose some of that ovoid look and not be as "whale like" even if it stayed the same size. For the record I find the 1993+ Supra to be a bloated whale too.

The 928 is barely wide enough at the hips to hold the rear tires inside the fenders. Yet you suggest that the same car, with wider wheels and tires shrouded in add-on flares, somehow looks less bulbous?

Clean your glasses, man!

928 S4: 316bhp and 317ft/lbs (11 lbs per hp)

Yes, the Boxster S makes 295bhp and 251ft/lbs, but a GTS makes 345bhp and 367 ft/lbs.

IMO, the 944's look too tall and narrow. The 928 looks lower and wider.

Porsche makes great cars, there should be a model for everyone's taste.

Dude I hate to admit it but by your post I can almost believe you're not as big an a-hole as you appear to be. You're almost ... nice lol

The 928 is one of those cars that looks huge in pics, but is quite small in person. Same with the testarossa. I am a big fan of the 928, especially the updates 87 and beyond. Some day I'll have an S4, a 944 with a chev v8 and a 968. Thats the plan anyway.

I'll have to take a picture of this, but I have the 928 and 993 parked side-by-side in the garage and the 928 is actually @ 1 inch lower than the 993, width looks about the same. The 928 is most noticeably the longer of the two. This probably accounts in part for the reason why the 928 is a much nicer car to travel long distances in. It tracks & rides noticeably better.

The Boxster is a lightweight toy, incapable of holding the 928's jock strap. Obviously.

The 944 length is 12 inches less than a 928, it is 4 inches narrower , and the same hight. The Boxster....is 7 inches less in length , 1.4 inches narrower and about 1/2 inch Taller ! , 997 (911) is only 3 inches less in length, 1/2 inch narrower and about one inch taller !!
