Default broken speedo needle

While fixing one problem I created another. I was replacing the odometer gear and while pulling off the speedometer needle the spindle that is was attached too also came out. I tried reseating it but didn't seem to have much luck, it won't stay level and kind of flops around. Does anyone know can the spindle be pushed back into the speedo or is it possible that I broke it off and am now out of luck. The arrow indicates what came off with the needle. Thanks.

Did the needle thin shaft come out of the gauge? If it did, the shaft is broken.

edit: took a lcose look at the pic and looks like only the head came off. If you can;t puch it back on, you need to glue or epoxy it back on. BUT at the same time it has to go back so it reads accurate.

no the thin shaft came out - (the pic was from rennbay that I put an arrow on for reference only). I was hoping there would be a way to fix it rather than a complete replacement of the speedo.

I just replaced my speedometer as the odometer wasn't working. You can have the old one if you'd like to use for parts. Just send me a PM as to where to send it.

If the shaft came out then it is problaby broken. At least it was with me. Have a really close look a the end of the shaft, you shoud be able to see the break. The shaft is like a sewing needly and will not bend but snap. If the shaft is broken, then it's best to buy another speedometer (a good used one).

If you are ready to give up and throw away your old speedo, then there is a final, last ditch trick that you can try (a last resort because if the trick fails, then your speedo *is* screwed):

First, pop your speedo needle on the head of the broken shaft.

Now go buy the 5 minute bonding JB Weld. Mix it up and dab the end of your broken shaft in it. Carefully lower your shaft onto its broken mate inside, and hold your hand rock steady while apply slight pressure for the next 5 minutes.

Let it sit overnight. You should be able to twist the needle/shaft back and forth at this point as if it was working inside your car. Be gentle!

Needless to say, this is a *last* resort for your speedo. If that JB Weld gets into the inner works...well, then it's toast. And it may not bond the two broken ends together anyway.

Won't take much effort to try, however, especially if you were about to throw it away, anyway.
