I Need a Piece of Center Console
My '93 GTS has had a happy gear slammin' at the wheel at some point in it's life. The console frame in front of the shifter opening is cracked and missing (below the ash tray opening). Now the shifter boot keeps sliding forward and will not stay in place.
Obviously I do not want to replace the whole console due to a small missing piece.
I need someone that has a junk console to cut the frame piece that I need to fix mine. Just let me know what you have and what you want for it and shipping.
The pictures below show my broken console in the top picture and an intact console from Paul's site that shows the section I am missing and where I would need a replacement part cut from. I can then trim my frame to match your replacement piece (cut it big for me). And then I can pop rivet the replacement piece in place using some aluminum mounting tabs on the back side.

On a serious note, it might be difficutl to secure the part in place. I don't have a trashed console in stock, but I do have some plastic bonding agent that might help if you find the missing piece.

My '85 came like that too, except the broken piece was not missing. Probalby the front ball cup and/or the shifter bushings were/are worn.

Since this is a part of the console not the "black insert" you will still have to do some surgery. I would suggest something like Angel's idea. See how it works. Then.....see what may be out there. I would think only a full console would be sold. I'm new to this so I may be wrong.
Adjust your rear coupler so this problem doesn't continue.
Good Luck.

I'm replacing the ball cup, rebuilding the rear coupler, and putting in a short throw shifter.
Nevermind guys, I took off the driver side console side panel and there was the missing piece.
Now to make a repair.

Just to hijack the thread for a little, is there an easier way to reach the ball cup or does the exhaust absolutely have to come off? I might as well take it off and play with the roll of the shifter while I'm at it (the thing is always stuck in 4/5 gate) but just wondering.

If your going to replace or adjust the front ball cup i would suggest that you invest in Carls updated part.
The exhaust does have to come off as well as the heat shield this make it easier to get to this part.

I thought about using Carl's all metal ball cup, but that paired with the short throw shifter (that eliminates the springs) may make the shifter too notchy for my taste. Besides the new nylon ball cup should last another 15 years or longer.

David,
About to fix the same problem on my GTS. Was going to put a small wide concave piece of Sheet Metal across the area, screw in on both sides, hit with a coat of semi-gloss black, and call it done.
What did you end up doing. Anyone else have any ideas??

Once the piece is in place, I put angel hair bondo over it, sanded and filled, then sprayed with SEM texture coating and painted. It's holding up well--even in South Texas heat. / Bruce

I ended up using sheet metal. One thin piece to hold shift boot in place, one to cover up hole.
You can't see the thin piece under the leather shift boot at all. The bigger piece to cover the hole visually is held by 3 small screws. With the ashtray closed you can't see anything out of the ordinary.
With the ashtray open, you can see the three "tiny" screws if you really look. All painted black so it's not noticeable at all. Took a bunch of pics, will post in a separate thread when I get a chance to upload all the pics.
