Default How to replace seat memory pot?

Tonight I was investigating why I didn't have fore-aft seat memory (the manual controls work fine, and memory for all other planes of movement).

Behind the seat motor cover (driver seat) I found that the 'sensing' pot on the front of the fore-aft motor appeared to be cracked/broken (can't see in photo, but when you pull cover off slightly the tiny shaft of the pot is loose/broken).

I was looking in PET for seat electrics parts but hardly any of them show up! Maybe because some are options?

The broken pot has a label saying it's p/n 928 616 322 00 but I don't see that in PET.

Assuming the memory sensing pot is a separate part (I'm not sure - maybe it only comes as part of the whole fore-aft motor) how do you replace it? When I pull on the whole assembly it moves away from the motor and you can see a small shaft running off the motor into the pot assembly. I don't want to damage this by pulling it the wrong way!

Has anyone here managed to replace the potentiometer? Where can I get hold of one if they are available (can't find that p/n on 928 International)? Maybe Porsche sell it as a single part? Maybe I have to get one from breaker?

The photo shows the assembly I'm talking about (on left you can just see the gear that engages with the manual cog if seat motor fails). It's on the drivers seat of RHD car, looking down from above with the driver's door to right of photo.

TIA for any advice on this. Should be an easy fix but other than diagnosing problem I'm stuck for now.

I don't think they were ever sold individually - you may have to canibalize another seat to get one...

Roger good to hear - I do recall folks asking about this before and no joy

- Maybe they didn't have the right part number for it - that was a very convenient sticker on this one.

However $80 = Ouch!!

I had a custom 1 off dual-potentiometer with dual-switches hand made for me for < twice that much...

But it beats the cost of a seat (and possibly even just the cost to ship a seat).

A part number is the key when it comes to parts from Porsche.

Thanks Roger - whatever the price (doesn't sound outlandish) it's a relief to know it's available separately.

Now does anyone please know how to replace the part if I do buy one? It may be more obvious when I see the part as right now I'm not sure where it attaches to the metal bar running to right of photo or to the motor on the left (maybe it replace the whole front of the motor including metal section?).

I'm looking at the non-memory arrangement on passenger seat for clues, but advice appreciated.

Oh and while I'm in there...

The red LED pilot light on the memory switch doesn't glow (though switch works fine for the 3 positions and for memorising).

PET shows three parts constituting the assemble - "seat control switch", "mounting piece", "cover, memory piece". Which of these components actually contains the faulty LED? Would be nice just to replace the failed part.

OK I can help you with that - the 1/2/3 buttons do have LEDs but the memory bar has an incandescent bulb - so dissassemble & replace. Otherwise you will have to replace the expensive part (not sure what its called but all the switches are on it).

It comes apart fairly easily - I had to dissassemble mine to clean and restore function. I don't recall the bulb and how it attaches - it may be soldered on.

Thanks Alan that's a great help. Will take it apart - it pops out of the door very easily

IIRR cable goes through potentiometer to motor. Both have rectangle hole for it. When cable rotates it also turns pot with it. Cable should be fairly easy to pull out since you have already removel lock piece which holds cables protective tube and pot in place.

Non memory seat use longer cable which do not have equally long square section at its end and slightly longer cover tube to make up missing pot lenght. This means normal cable and its shield can't be used together with memory function parts.
