no the GT is gone, in Canada now with the happy new owner.
This is the S4 that i bought from a guy in San Antonio after it was brought to my attention by Rennlist, but was curiously still available as it wasnt a GOOD ENOUGH deal.
Its a flipper, but i want it to be a clean flipper so we need to fix her up right first.

Plugs and O2 arrived today. I will swap them out tomorrow morning
Should i retest immediately tomorrow after the parts swap and with new fuel and a HOT HOT HOT engine, or?
I guess the deal is we test, make changes, test again and continue to make changes if necessary till we get inline?
I need to find a place with unlimited retests, the place i went to only allows one LOL

Race Car
I recently went thru this in VA, no suggestions from me really, I did a LOT of replacing and an intake refresh, looking for vacume leaks, only to have the same results, turns out it was my LH that was bad.
See if you can't borrow a known working one if the O2 and plugs don't do it.

Report,
Well i pulled the plugs and found some NGK deals, all in all they looked ok. There was quite a bit of oil leaking from the valve cover gaskets for the spark plug holes. So the car could use an intake and cam cover refresh I guess.
I installed the Bosch WR7DC + plugs and buttoned everything up. I fixed a couple little oddities n the engine bay while i was in there also.
As for the O2 sensor, when I dropped the cats i noticed that someone had twisted the 3 wire sensor a million times and sure enough it was completely seperated from the actual probe, so there was absolutely ZERO O2 sensor function, it was destroyed.
So I spliced the universal one up and installed it. while i was there i relieved the tension on the flex plate by loosening the clamp to eliminate any flex plate and crank thrust bearing issues. Crank end play is within spec. I also left the back two bolts out so the cover can be easily removed for future checks.
The car was also out of fuel so i filled her up with 91..... (used to get 93 in texas) so now ive got fresh fuel, a new and functioning o2 sensor and new plugs.
I will go for a nice drive tomorrow morning, get the car nice and toasty and have her tested again. Hopefully she passes but i should have drastically lower numbers the next go round. If it still fails i think i will try a a new MAF as the throttle seems a little sluggish to me and possibly just send the injectors out to be balanced while the car is idle and not running.
We will see.........Wish me luck

If you don't pass: Nasty, old, clogged fuel injectors. One or two injectors with a bad spray pattern can cause both high HC and high NOx. The nasty injectors cause poor combustion due to bad atomization of the fuel. This results in high NOx, so the LH - if the 02 sensor works - driver the whole motor rich. The bad injectors still spray like crap but the other cylinders are now rich. Result: high NOx and high HC.

sounds good
I was reading a post by Greg and he mentioned to someone to replace the injectors if they were still having issues.
If it doesnt pass, i will park the car for a week, pull the injectors and maf and send them out for rebuilding and be out of the car for a week or so.
We will see, thanks for the confirmation on the idea though, sounds like the MAF and injectors will be step 2 of the process.
Hell, by the end of this the car should run ****!

Ryan, looking at the test sheet the RPM's were pretty low (1200-1300RPM).
Does it make sense to ask them to run the test in a lower gear and get the revs up to more typical road numbers e.g. 2000-3000??
Good luck!

Took test again, FAIL, but no longer Gross Polluter
I asked about going in a different gear but the guy said no to that.
All numbers but NO are up!
When I first arrived he asked "so you replaced the cats?" I think he was telling me something.
I'll post the test page shortly. I was thinking of doing MAF and injectors next, but I think I should replace cats first, test, then MAF and injectors.
Thoughts?

This is a copy of the latest smog check
O2 sensor replaced and plugs changed. Notice that HC, and CO are up, while NO is down but still 3x where it should be to pass.
I am not sure what my next step should be? Wether i go for MAF, and injectors, or go with a CAT replacement?
I may have to do all 3 but i would like to do one before the other and retest and see where we go.

The new results show the o2 sensor is now working (you knew that), but that the cats are likely dead, probably due to the lean condition caused by the inop o2 sensor. Buy/borrow some stock cats from someone (heed your tech's advice ) and run the test again. I think you'll pass.

ok so lets do cats first then if still no workey then we can go for MAF and injectors
The cats looked burnt or very corroded from comparing them to what the cats on the GT looked like. The GT had more miles and was the same year, so something was up.
