Default My first collision...

An old woman in a Mercedes just backed off in my 928... Slowly... slowly...

Obviously, the stock horn doesn't do enough noise... Cuz she never heard it.

I got probably half an inch of clear that shipped off. Nothing dramatic... But her bumper has now 4-5 inches less paint.

Good thing that the 928 are made that strong.

Now I got to buy myself a real horn. One that scream! I think my exhaust do more noise than my horn currently...

Sorry to hear it. I assume her insurance will be covering the repair...you'll probably need an entire respray so the paint will match

Yup, the 928 horn is too "polite". We need a LOUD horn. I had some aftermarket air horns on mine but went back to the stock ones when the air horns failed after about 3 months. Who has some practical suggestions for increasing our audible presence??

When she saw it was a porsche she became all bad and sorry.
Lucky for me it had no damage...

So she said she will live with it.

Here insurance is a bit wierd with the "no responsability" clause.

For small stuff, we are better not involving the insurrance.

Sorry to hear of the accident. Before you chose to keep the insurance out of it get an estimate to touch up the damage.

As far as the horn; I installed an airhorn from Harbor freight (appears to be the same one sold by Griots Garage). Big improvement. In my case I got tired of the idiots on cell phones while driving. Money well spent, it has got the attention of several airheads already.

+1 on the "too polite". We almost never use the horn, but if we do then we want to be HEARD!
We swapped ours for Griot's "Hella Horns", louder but sounds like an Indian taxi which seems a bit inappropriate.
(Oddly, they also came with a "Made in India" sticker).

Anyone have experience with Griot's "Compact Italian Air Horns"? (Looks like the Stebel Nautilus).

I also got one from Harbor Freight. It gets their attention.

Thanks. Although the train horns seem best, I would have a problem mounting them and Harbor Freight's horn seems simple and modestly priced.

Goto a junkyard and grab the horn off of a Cadillac. I got one from a 1990 fleetwood and it is loud as hell and sounds with authority. People pay attention when that thing goes off. Super cheap too.
