I like my cars loud and my women loud in bed.
My '87 S4 has Motorsports Inc stainless X-pipe no-cats, FlowMaster Super 44's, and 928 Motorsports stainless RMB. Nice and loud, now pass me another beer.

Good write-ups on modifying the stock exhaust with other stock parts. I'm on the fence about leaving the '87 stock, and have to admit it sounds really wussy to me. I guess my only local comparision is Chewy's open single and Chris's dual setup. But both are custom.
I've heard for years that RMB is the way to go. I like the idea of x-pipe tech, but I'm doesn't work with stock cats. If I were to do it, it would be for better sound, and some power gain. Too many choices...

I have a an X, no cat ,small resonators(GT resonators) and the GT rear muffler, I think this is a good compromise, As I had an RMB fitted and it was like standing next to a Nascar the GT muff quieted things down but it still has a growl and has a Perfect GT sound.
It comfortable on the freeway as a normal conversation can be had.

I tried the RMB with same but found it too loud at spirited driving; can barely hear Plant & Page. The OEM S4 muffler was too quiet and platypus ugly............the GT muffler looks and sounds the part.
