Default Would not crank

Hi all,
After having the 88 S4 up to remove the flex plate tension, upgrading to an x-pipe, oil change, flushing coolant and replacing TB, i finally started driving the 928.
Well after a good spirited drive, the car would not crank when it was time to go again..i moved the shifter up and down thinking it was the neutral switch..that did nothing oh and there is plenty of juice in the battery and it did finally cranked and started but questions.

Does the factory alarm "relay" stop the car from cranking or just cuts off ignition?
is there any other relay that would if acting up prevent the car from cranking?

I only suspect relays because i opened up the fuse panel and stated messing about and have a suspicion that i touched some VERY hot relays and this allowed the car to crank. i do not suspect the ignition switch because when i go to the crank position i see a current draw on the volt gauge "i know the gauge does not show current draw" but something was happening.

So do I have another case of RELAY RELAY RELAY?

Thanks alot.
Oh and i should have gotten one of these puppies years ago..omg what a car.

If you got it started after making sure all the relays were snuggly seated, then maybe that was all was, hopefully.

The alarm does not disable the starter. The only relay involved in cranking is the starter relay (and the starter solenoid). If the dash lights dim and the voltage gauge dips significantly but the starter doesn't spin - you may have a solenoid or starter issue - check the big connections on the starter for corrosion. Test the voltage on the small connector - should be ~12v when trying to crank - this is the output of the starter relay.

My limited experience with 928 relays is: if it is hot to the touch, it needs to be replaced.

you should get a fuse relay chart here www.928gt.com and any relays that are hot should be pulled and opened, also check the connector pins for corrosion, and last clean the hot post wires and the 14 pin connector with the battery disconnected, there is a starter relay that goes bad from overheating due to extended cranking periods (check the fuses and the relays for correct P/N and load

Thanks Folks
There most certainly was a VERY hot relay up in there because as i was going around pushing them in to make sure they were seated right..i got burned on one..its seemed like a generic one with 4 like it right around.
more tid bits...
AWWWW and it begins....sight!!!

Try cleaning the 14-pin connector near the jump start terminal.

And, of course, all of the battery connections - six big ones and all of the small ones.
