Default New Vaccum Lines?

Could someone tell me how much vaccum line and what size I need to buy to re-new the perished lines on my 80 4.7 928 5-speed.
Unlike the USA, kits for the 928 don,t exist over here,.. hence I need to buy whatever length I/D diameter etc,.. and it would be a help to know, in order to get the right stuff.

Any help, as always greatfully received

two kits come to mind---Carls' got one, and there's another on eBay. Roger Tyson may have one as well, and all of these could/can be shipped overseas.

with the dollar as low as it is, I suggest you send the Euros "State-side" and get a complete kit.

Ahhh... replacing vacuum lines is so much fun!!!
One thing leads to another and before you know it... the whole intake has been refurbed..... just to fix that little heisitation that started after the vacuum lines were replaced

Cheers,

Thank,s for the advice, today I found a shop near me that supplies (SAMCO) silcone vacuum hose the only size they had available has an inside diameter of 4mm, the old vac hose on the distributor seems smaller say around the 3mm mark...., they gave me a sample of there 4mm and when I tried it on the connector/nipple from the Dist it fitted OK but was,nt as tight as the original hose.

Now they said that they could get me 3mm, but what I,d like to know is,. how important is the fit, and what size do you guys fit ?

Also if I get a bunch of 3mm is this good for other vacuum connectors on the car ? or do I need other sizes aswell ?

I used 4mm silicone on some of those smaller connections and then just put a small pinch style hose clamp on to snug things up worked great.

Roger at 928srus.com has a complete replacement kit. I did it piecemeal and got hit with sundry vacuum tee splitter and adapter costs plus trip mileage back and forth for piddling parts. It would have been nice to have a complete kit altogether before I started.

Cheers,
ain't it the truth! (box of parts coming from 928 international today as a result of my vacuum hose replacement project)

The small vacuum lines are 3.5mm I.D, so the English unit hoses are just a bit too large or too small..I don't know how your auto parts shops work in the UK but if you can find a place that supplies VW's they will have it in the original braided form.

The larger breather hoses (like from the charcoal canister) are easier to find here in the US because the standard english unit hoses are very close..again not sure which are easier/cheaper to find in the UK

Hi Ken,
Try looking here http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/
I bought one of their vacuum kits for my 86 928S - good quality tube and enough to do all the main lines.
Cheers

....,firstly, many thank,s for the replies, Iv,e managed to get some (SAMCO) blue silicone line in 3mm and 4mm.
Can anyone tell me what other areas I need to check out.....,so far iv,e done from Distributor vacuum to rear of Throttle housing, and from Diverter valve to Decel valve and then to rear of Throttle housing via 3 way connector.

Iv,e checked the condition of the original Black small bore lines around the Check-valve and they appear to be ok,.....the long whiteish coloured line that goes from these across the bulk-head and disappears into the inner fender had a suspect 6inch piece that was degraded, so I replaced that as well.

As well as replacing, and not knowing where to go next, I checked all susceptible lines where they cross-over metal parts of the engine and made them safe, definately worth a check, as I found the Throttle cable was starting to wear a groove in one of the steel injector lines.
