Default Replacing the expansion tank

My old expansion tank was leaking from a tiny crack in it.
Bought a used one to replace it with.

So any tips on how to do the exchange?

Can I replace the old one without draining the whole system?
Will it work to just drain the exp. tank with a hose and use
to clamps and tighten the 2 hoses sitting in it?

The whole system does not need to be drained - just siphon out the tank, and only a few mls will drip from the hoses. The trick is to access the tank mounting bolts (M6), so some adjacent items may have to be removed. Once the bolts are out, the tank can be lifted and rotated to remove the bottom hose clamp .... the rest is obvious .

One caution ... some tanks have more taps/spigots on the top end that your car may have hoses to fit them ( dependant on model year): in that case, one must clamp a hose stub fitted with a plug/bolt to close the extra opening.

to remove the tank you should also consider replacing the washer fill tube as this also has to be loosened/ For the tank remove the level sensor wirew the 2 small hoses on top of the tank then slide your hand down the engine side of the tank you will feel a bigger hose this connects to the metal hard line this is where you disconnect the tank( leave the hose on the bottom of the tank in place) it will come out with the tank , once the small securing tank screws are removed. When you refit the new tank fit the bottom hose on the tank and orient the clamp so it can be tightened from under the car ( then tighten this clamp) Then refit the level sensor to the top orient the wires so they face forward.
Refit the tank with the hose , and add the securing screws connect the big hose to the metal line refit the sensor wires and the small hoses and the fit the new washer fill tube
