Default 928 International Headers merge collectors

Just been told that the 2nd hand German eBay 928 Intl headers that I bought a while ago have finally been mated to the X-pipe and the rest of the exhaust system. I have also been told that they are blowing a bit where the 4 individual pipes go into the merge collectors due to the nature of the design. Is this correct or the shop is telling me porkies? They are usually very good, thus I doubt it... What can be done to stop them blowing - exhaust sealing paste?

Please don't take this post as an attempt to knock the product - I bought 2nd hand and according to the installers, they are an awesome product. It is just the blowing which bugs me a bit

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Yes they are RACE headers designed and built for RACING off road use only. The slip fit collectors will leak a bit , not much of an issue on a nasty unmuffled RACE CAR We have never tried to seal them ...Sterling G. has I believe.

You could weld them up... but then that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn't it.

Jim,

Thanks for the quick reply. They were installed on a RACE car, thus I expect things to be noisy I was also just told by the installer that sealing paste will help me pass the annual check... So all is good and I am looking fwd to the bwaaaaa

If they are welded up I do not think you can get them off the car ! a bit of paste should help a bit.

Are the aformentioned headers suited to RHD cars as well as LHD cars or is there a bit of playing around to get it to work?

We have never tried to fit it to a RHD car (never had a RHD car to try) but highly doubt it would fit even with a LOT of playing around..... there is just so little room for equal length headers.

Bad news for you - my car is LHD, being a German import thus it was a straight fit...

Adrian Clark, who races a GTS in the UK had a set modified to fit his RHD car, but it was serious work and all 4 pipes had to be modified. drnick on here had Devek Level II headers modified to fit his orange car and only 2 of the pipes needed work. As to which system is better overall - I have no idea...

Since DEVEK is no longer in business ....there are no more new level II headers.

Good point!

I must add that Promax Motorsport in the UK, who modified drnick's headers still have the jig and the measurements, thus if a copy of Devek's headers was ever needed I am sure they can make something. I heard a cost of around $2000 to make a set in stainless, which is a lot...

Perhaps Adrian, who also posts on here can tell us whether the modified 928 Intl headers remained equal lenght in his RHD GTS...

i thought adrian had to ajust both manifold sides ie all 8 pipes?! he did say that it was less than straight forward. the devek headers needed a mod to two of the pipes on the new drivers side, pipes1 and 4 from memory. i did ask at the time if there was more interest in getting some further sets made up but the costs of manufacturing are not insignificant.

I only had to change the side the steering rack is on, but all 4 pipes on that side were changed. 3 are exactly the same length as original and one was a tiny bit out - I ran out of time with a race coming up, so will do that one again to get it spot on - although I doubt the difference will be noticeable. It would be good if 928intl could do that side for RHD - you simply mirror the 5-8 bank shapes, if you could get the engineering co to do that.

Jim let me know if you could get your supplier to do that and I'd buy that side and check it fits. I am sure there would be other UK buyers

Adrian he only works with an actual car so he KNOWS what works and what does not. I saw him spending hours and hours here with a car on the lift cutting and fitting, cutting and fitting , welding , cutting fitting.....He then made a fixture from which he can reproduce his original.
