Default Memory seat problem

I have memory function for driver's seat (RHS for UK model) which up till now has worked fine.

Recently I noticed that for all 3 seat memories the fore/aft position is not being memorised (or at least seat does not return to memorised fore-aft position).

The other movements + lumbar work fine, so before testing I'm guessing that problem is:

- to do with the potentiometer under seat which sends fore-aft position to control unit

- problem with the fore-aft circuitry of controller itself

- simple wiring fault/disconnection so fore-aft position is not being sent to under-seat controller

From experience can anyone point to the most likely problem here, or even suggest one I haven't considered?

I have printed out all the relevant wsm pages and will work through the tests there.

One other question - the lights in the memory switch in the door have never illuminated (I only discovered they were meant to when reading owner's manual!). Is there a single LED under the memory switch or are there lights under the memory switch and 1-3 buttons? Are these LEDs driven from the under-seat controller or the mirror memory controller?

Fortunately I bought a brand new seat memory controller for next to nothing on eBay ages ago, so can swop that in if necessary.

Thanks in advance for any advice on fixing seat memory - trivial thing (all the motors/switches work fine) but I enjoy challenge of getting everything working right on my S4!

Assuming the seat still moves in that plane manually - its almost certainly the potentiometer (broken, disconnected) - so it stores a 'position' and when you move the seat this position doesn't change on the potentiometer - so it never feels the need to adjust the seat position for a memory recall...

There is no wiring for the memory function other than the position feedback potentiometer - its all contained in the seat memory - nothing else that is unique per plane.

The 4 buttons go to both the mirror memory and the seat memory - each deals with its own memory functions.

There 3 LED's - 1 per button (very low level night illumination only) - and a mini bulb for the mem button. These are all driven from the seat memory controller - under the drivers seat.
