Thanks.
Is there any chance I can gently pull the old nozzle up, bringing the hose with it, then connecting and pushing the new nozzle back in even if I damage the old nozzle in the process?

NO you will have the heat the hose and remove a spring clip to remove the old squirt.
The hose is not long enough and the spring clip wont fit through the hole,
and you wont be able to install the new plastic nuts to hold them in.
