Stealth Amp Project
In between various frustrations in the shop I came up with this idea. I upgraded my sound system (unfinished) beginning with a McIntosh head unit, and then found an amp that is a shoehorn fit in the tray underneath the glove compartment (Blaupunkt GTA-4, discontinued). The head unit has a removable faceplate, but the amp is somewhat visible (esp. with a flashlight at night, my paranoiac imagination tells me).
So I hid it. Photos should be self-explanatory. Like that other 928 pilot, sometimes I just crack myself up...

Hah! the typically 'messy' solution to the problem - not only does it hide the amp but it reduces the chance of theft...!
Just kidding - its a great idea! adpatable to whatever your interests are...
Im thinking half a hand grenade with string (elastic) attached to the pin - stretched to the door handles - that should keep them out! - not very stealth though!
I should think you could also make up a frame covered in speaker cloth matched to your interior color - good airflow through it - but hides it away nicely too.

Hey, I like the hand grenade idea, Alan! And Ernest, that might be necessary - I had to partially amputate a vent duct on the left. Good in summer with AC, not so good in winter... Even thought about running the glove compartment hose down to cool it, but then what about the PBR? Compromises, compromises...

Vent's only good when A/C is on.
Resting cans of chilled PBR's on the amp would be more all season.
I was running heavy CPU cycle program on my laptop.
For stupid's sake I took one of those muscle chilling pads that you cool in the freezer and put that on the laptop to keep CPU temps down.
There's now a desk fan pointed at the machine to keep it from melting down.
Radio Shack had a couple CPU cooling fans on sale few weeks ago. Picked up an 80mm fan for $2.
Any airflow is better than none.
My sub amp sits in the rear storage compartment (rear air delete) and I've got it propped open about 1/2" to keep the amp from cooking itself from it's own heat and exhaust heat seep.

You probably give the Freon some Gatorade after a while since it gets exhausted from running around expanding and getting squished all the time.
I used to be the idjiot that declutched the car before engaging A/C to minimize stress on the compressor and A/C clutch.

The best solution I've seen (I can't remember who) was putting the amps behind the rear seat headrests (there's a pocket there). And then he build an enclosure that makes the whole thing look factory.
