Default Replacing Instrument Circuit Board

I ordered a new cuircuit foil and odometer gear for my 81 instrument cluster from Roger. Any tips, links etc before I start? I tried to access Sharkskin's write up on the gear replacement but the link won't work.

I bought this 81 Euro S manual not running quite a few months ago and this is the first chance I've had to work on her. If all goes well, I hope to have her up and running by next weekend

IMO the trickyist part to the whole thing is getting the pod on and off. The board replacement is easy but with a lot of screws. make sure it works before you put it all back together in the pod in the car. Putting it 100% back in the car with a test will assure you failure.... at least thats the way it always works out for me

Just did my 81 very easy no problem at all. Make sure to check out the light lenses for the cluster. fix em before you put it back together. did mine and made a huge difference in brightness.

Found Dwayne's Part II write up which goes over the removal of the circuit board. What a great post!

Just an FYI - the 82 thru 84 instrument PCB's can be custom made. The cost is quite high due to initial tooling charges and a lot fee. The cost for a single circuit is about $2500; however, if enough people needed one, a group buy might possibly get the cost to around $500.

Not the cheapest, but when the part in NLA - $500 seems pretty reasonable.

Cheers,

I thought that might be possible. Do you have the information where that can be done? It would be interesting to know how many it would take to get it down to that, AND, how many people here need one (or two). I know I need one bad.

The company is Allflex. www.allflexinc.com
They do instrument PCB's for American cars and European models on request.

When I discussed this with the sales rep at Allflex, we figured that 15-20 people would lower the price to about $500. It really depends on how many circuits they can get on a panel.

So the cost is :
$1500 tooling charge - this is a one time cost. (NRE Non-refundable Engineering charge).
$1000 lot charge - this is the actual cost of the physical circuits PER panel. Since an order with 15-20 people would take multiple panels, we could get a discount; however, someone would need to send a bad circuit to Allflex to generate a quote on the actual pricing.

I need one and I know a few others that need one; however, do we have 15 to 20 people that need one?

Cheers,

Tom,
I would certainly like to buy some to sell so I may help on the quantity.
I'm in and maybe a better deal as I can go wholesale.
