Default New oil-leak ?

Took the car out for a run yesterday, and on returning parked it on the driveway, couple of hours later I put it in the garage...., closed the door and then I noticed a small patch of oil where she had been standing, probably about a thimble full.

I had a look under the front, and the driver side ( US) there was a single drop on the anti roll bar just before it bends near the end.

The oil was a graphite colour slightly bitter in a taste test,.... dont know if this helps but the power steering resevoir was below the mark on the side.

If it is power steering fluid, would it be worth trying some Lucas oil conditioner ive had some good results on cars with this product in the past.

Also there has,nt been any stains overnight on some white paper that I put directly under it, although a single small drop has appeared on the anti roll bar, same area as yesterday, would this leak whatever it comes from, only show up under pressure,......and is it a common thing on 928s.
Any advice much appreciated.

I would not use any oil conditioner. Your issue is most likely a leaky hose or union joint.

I assume this is a RHD car since you're in the UK. I'm not sure if this changes how things are routed or not (I assume it is different), but you should stick you head under there and see where it's leaking from. Then go from there.

As tempting as most magic-in-a-bottle elixers are for stopping leaks, they usually do not work, and at best slow down the realy issue, and can often times comprmise the rest of the system in the meantime. It's much easier to pour a few $$ (or ££ inyour case) to see if it works. Sadly, it won't. Save your money and fix it right.

Thank,s Andrew and LS , iv,e just been looking around that area and decided to look from the top,.... removed the air-tube that covers the rocker box, and there it was, the hose that comes from the resevoir and up the front of the right hand bank, it does a horseshoe shape then goes along level with the rocker cover,....half way along ther is a steel flanged union, this is where the leak is,.....

Question is,.. is there a "how to" anywhere, or is this a job for my local shop,......it looks a right pain in the backside, not to mention other parts.

Interresting, it leaks exactly at the same spot as mine...
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/447583-p-s-the-horror.html

Mine was easy to spot because everytime I was turning the wheels, there was a nice white cloud of smoke coming from my engine as the drop of oil was hitting the heated cam under it.

You can :
A) Take your hose to be rebuilt to your nearest hydraulic specialist (Heard it cost 30-40$)
B) Buy a new one. (Cost around 120$, had a chance to get a new one for 94$)

The best "How To..." I found was :
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ring+reservoir

Also, you may think to replace your oil reservoir at the same time, as the filter in it cannot be replaced. The reservoir itself is a nice 24-28$ and is quite easy to replace.

If you don't screw up like me, it's an easy job of a few hours.

Arghh !! I don,t believe it ? ,... after waiting over two weeks for a new power steering hose to arrive from the States, they,ve only gone and sent the wrong hose!!! Dam-it.
The hose that arrived at my shop yesterday, did,nt have the long steel tube with the curve on the bottom, same as the one on Lightstrkers picture lying on the fender, so they sent it back immediately, They got it from Autohaus Arizona, so God knows how long it,s going to be off the road now.
Can anyone please confirm, when I asked the shop about having a new piece of hydraulic hose inserted, they said it was too tricky as the new hose has to be fitted EXACTLY in the same position as the old piece, as the way it fits to the pump/rack is extremely tight/critical and any deviation from the original set-up and it would not fit.

Has anyone took this particular hose to an hydraulic shop and successfully had it done ?
If your wondering why I got the hose from the US and not here in the UK ? the US one was less than half the price.
Incidentally the shop that,s doing the work have been very good, they e-mailed Authaus and they said the hose they sent was probably off an early 4.5 78/79 model 928, Q, I thought they were all the same, they are quoting one part no on their site, and the picture shown is definately the one I need...,but not the one I got !!,.... looking oh their site it looks exactly like a 944 hose ie short curly pipe on one end, and short angle bend on the other end ?
I,m confused/frustrated and disappointed !

They are right about the fact that the hose is quite tight in its position. It's actually a bit tricky to remove the old one and place the new one. The space is just enough for it. It's not hard, just fit.

(BTW, mine is a '79. So if they sent you one that doesn't look like the one I got, they have no clue what they are talking about)

I heard a few people around here had their hose rebuild. Personally, mine was almost 30 years and all the rubber looked like crap, I was better with a new one.
The hose is the same from '78 to '84. Younger car has different one.

You should have tried 928intl first :
