STARTING ISSUE-EVERY THIRD TRIED FIXED
Hello everyone i started the post on my car several months ago .The problem was it blows a puff of smoke sometimes and it smells rich ,periodically also started on the third cranking.I had asked Rich , Roger and also Tom everyone thought its not the LH going south, but it could be the fuel regulator and dampers-front and rear.Anyhow this week i worked with a mechanic porsche and audi tech to installed all three-regulators and dampers to tell you guys if those parts are not replaced in all these years its well worth to replaced.Car idle smooth and steady almost like new......i had intake refreshed last year all sensors replaced, maf rebuilt ,hall, knox, crank, isv, injectors kit,tps and all hoses and ignitions-coils ,caps, rotors, wires, dual fuel pumps,o2 sensor.....etc. I guess these 3 fuel related parts were neglected to replaced ,because of the cost .I have no idea they helped the car run so smooth.

IDLE ISSUES
After the intake job last year everything was great the idle was 675 ,then the hall sensor triggered the idle problem, idle at 500 rpm so i installed a new one and it fixed that, then 3 months ago a new problem arised the idle was 500-600 rpm it was the crank sensor the connector all cracked and exposed -i replaced that sensor the idle was back to 675,then recently 3 cranking issue and puff the dragon smoke i thought it was the LH and damn this car .The idle was still steady at time ,but not rock steady like now.NO puff and it start every 1st crank...

The reason I ask about the idle is I have just finished an extensive resoration of the engine and replaced every item on your list except the dampers, regulator and injectors. I don't think my regulator is the problem as my fuel pressure guage reads very constant and at the correct pressure all the time. I did not replace my injectors because I am installing a Murf stage III and larger injectors come with the kit. (it arrives this week)
I know my injectors are not up to 100% but I have spent 3 days now trying to stablize my erratic idle. On my idle the RPM really does not fluctuate very much, maybe 50 or so, but its more of a rough - engine miss sort of idle and a little hesitation off the line if you floor it.
I had given up today in conclusion that I have one or several clogged injectors, but I wonder now if I need to replace the dampers after reading your thread.

IDLE ISSUES
Believe me i read the forum on some members here on the board and did not want to spent more money, but the parts exposed to fuel are almost 20 years.Mine is a 1990-most of us have to replaced the two fuel pumps and fuel filter-the internal diapragm do go out -one regulator and two fuel damper-all look the same except the part numbers .They are a pain to removed and be careful not to bend those hard fuel lines to the rail-i think they are 450-600 a piece because they are part of the fuel rail.Good chances your problem is like mine,we had replaced everything elses.....
