Default Certificate of Authencity for ROW car

I ordered a COA for my '89 S4 ROW from PCNA and was horrified to find most of the information was either blank or stated "not available". I wasn't expecting this as I had received one for my previous car ('86.5 WP0) and it was complete.

Now that I know the hard way that PCNA is unable to supply a COA for an ROW car anyone out there know how I can get one? Do I have to go back to the original country of sale, or is there a way to get one from the factory? Or am I just SOL? HELP!

Glenn

P.S. Yes, I checked for the sticker under the rear carpet and it is not there. I assume the original delivering dealer did not install it as it was there on my previous car.

Are you looking for extra info you do not currently have, or?

If you want to make you own...

Horrified?

I'd hate to see you when you find a fly in your soup. You must get positively apoplectic!

Randy he might wish to "show it" and would need that paper... or was simply shocked that they took his money for the COA and sent one with a bunch of blanks.

That was my first thought! $110 for a useless piece of paper.

Ouch, not right. Why wouldn't they notify you that the information was unavailable. We already know it's a 928 and the year etc

I just ordered mine and it's due to arrive in a week, I will be pretty pissed if they don't list everything correctly. But then again I did send the window sticker with it so they would have to be clueless to screw it up.

I sent in a check for the COA for my ROW with a note that I did not want it if they could not provide complete information. They returned the check.

Ah, in that case, I would be outraged!

Glenn,

I got a letter from Porsche Great Britain for my 928 as I needed confirmation of build date for import reasons. They call it a "Letter of Origin".

I phoned customer service intially and they confirmed various details over the phone, but to get something on paper I had to pay 60GBP.

I've stuck a pdf of the letter on some web space if you want to see how much/little info is there.

http://users.on.net/~hilton/Porsche_Builddate_Specs.pdf

You might try contacting your Porsche customer service department at Canadian HQ - various Aussies have mentioned they got theirs from Porsche Australia when importing, so I think the ROW database isn't country specific.

Oh.. lastly, the customer service rep confirmed the specific date the car left the factory via e-mail to me, but they only specified the month in the letter. It wasn't an issue for me as it was early enough to qualify for import to Australia.

Hilton.

Oh.. also worth noting that the options list they have on record isn't complete.. or at least, my car has a few things that aren't on the list, like leather dash/console/head liner, red piping on the seats to match exterior, no sunroof etc.

I suspect you're mostly interested in the build date however?

Thanks for the replies, Jim you are correct. I do want to show the car and would like the COA but was not expecting PCNA to take my money and send a back a COA with a bunch of blanks on it!

Mike, I should have done the same thing and added a note but after getting a fully detailed COA on my previous car I didn't think it was going to be an issue...live & learn!

Flys in my soup I can live with, but I would rather give my $110 to charity then buy a blank piece of paper.

Hilton, great information, I will follow your path and see what I can come up with. My car came from Japan and looks as though it was originally imported and sold there as new. That's why I was wondering if I needed to contact the dealer/importer in the original country of sale. Was you car originally sold in GB before you got it in Australia?

I had read on Rennlist of a few instances where others had been disappointed with the info included on their COA for ROW cars which is why I included the note. I guess that covers my Rennlist membership for a little while.

Please let me know if you find another source for documentation for ROW cars. I'd really like to learn more about mine, especially the "special" option codes on the build label in the hatch.

try contacting Porsche AG for RoW car .... PCNA wouldn't have a lot of info on an RoW car in their database because it wouldnt' have been originally destined for this market

Glenn, yes my car was sold in the UK originally.

However a local 928'er I know who imported an ex-UK car recently got his Letter of Origin for customs from the local Australian Porsche Centre, so it seems that non-US Porsche Centres share a database, which would make sense given that RoW cars share a VIN range.
