cracked brown plastic tip on injector = okay to use w/out it?
Doing fuel hoses and seals on the injectors for The Blue Car (MY 1980).
LUCKILY, while sliding the small seal over the end, I noticed that there is a crack in the little brown plastic tip cover on one of the injectors.
Can the cover just be removed and still use the injector w/out it?
Can only the cover be replaced?
Do I need to buy an new injector?
Appreciate any guidance.

thanks Lizard. I'll have to look into if they'll do only one and the cost.
I suspect the plastic cover is functionally required for flow or something. Nearly put it back in w/out it, but thought it better to check.
Also, with the small seal slid over it, the cover can't expand to slide off the knurl of the injector tip. Seems okay to just run with it like that, but then I thought of all the downsides if the cover chipped/broke off.
Hmmm.

You're in northern California? There are Doctor Injector locations somewhere around there, I believe. They have the caps, and they are like a buck each. They also perform cleaning and flow matching services there, which would get you a whole new set of caps included.

if your going to install the pintle cap yourself buy 2 of them,
drop them into hot water after getting the correct 12pt socket that just fits around the barrel put the socket in a vice place the cap into the socket and then press the injector home till it clicks check for cracks. BTDT

thanks Brian - yea, we changed both seals, fuel hose and clamps. cleaned them up a little too, but they were pretty clean anyway with only 60k on 'em!
Beautiful M3 by the way.
