Lifter measurement

Hiho,
I got handed a set of BMW hydraulic lifters which are made by INA like the 928 ones. Since they looked prettty similar to the 928 late style lifters, I did some measurements.
928 lifter on the left, BMW lifter on the right:

Height, diameter, oil channel location and the piston distance to lower lip seem to be the same as in the 928 lifter. What else should I measure? Obviously the comperessed state distance from piston to lip but anything else? Anyone have good idea how to reliably compress the lifter for the measurement?
The BMW lifters cost less than half the price of 928 ones...
