Default Making glass lens CLEAR again???

I did a search in the archives with no luck so I thought I'd run this past the group.

How can one remove the haze / small pecks and improve the clarity of the lens???

Also I am in need of the passenger side driving light lens ( driver side shown ). Mine has 2 cracks. Are these still available?

they sell a kit which uses some gold oxide compound (or something like that) thats supposed to be great for polishing glass. I think the kits runs about $40-$60

The stuff is cerium oxide, a very fine/very hard compound that will polish glass. The $46 Eastwood kit is a small tub of cerium oxide and a hard felt buffing pad fora 1/4" drill chuck. This is great for buffing out the fine scratches from windshield wipers, but won't do a thing for pitted fog-light lenses, been there/tried that.

Eastwood also sells a "deep scratch" kit for another $20 which adds some abrasive disks. I would be reluctant to use that on a windshield (risk of optical distortions) but it might work for the lenses. Soem vigorous sanding with 1000-2000 grit wet/dry paper (wet) might work also, followed by the polishing. I haven't tried that yet...

Cheers, Jim

There was a group at the last Sharktoberfest who were polishing plastic and metal parts..when I asked about glass (picked up a used but not perfect lens while at the event) they said that they do it at their shop but not there..but perhaps next year (this year) they will be able to ... Would be nice..i bet they could make some serious money doing the 928s that show up to this years Sharktoberfest..

You can improve their appearance by removing them and cleaning from the inside. The hazing is due to moisture, dirt etc working their way past the seals and eventually on to the lenses and reflectors. A quick wipe with a microfiber and Q-Tips will remove most residue and make them clear. The pitting is a more difficult repair and I seriously doubt you can get them to match a new lense. I would personally buy two new lenses and sell the old one to someone who needs it at a reduced price. Or search for an old one that will match your existing lense.

Thanks David,
I will check with him as soon as he is back from Vacation. I HOPE the one I can get cleaned up enough that a new on one the passenger side won't look odd. $190 is easier to bite off than $380 for the pair.

Here's a link to the before/after of the lenses on my car: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/424960-leatherique-results-and-a-few-other-pictures.html

Go about halfway down the page for pics.
