HEY 928 WOMEN!!!!
#93
Edited this after realizing there are now officially 16 ladies vying for 12 months. Guess without an 18 month calendar, that's certain potential for some people feeling left out in the end.

REMEMBER -- IT IS FOR CHARITY . . .
When the calender pics are announced and posted on Off Topic, you will only get ONE VOTE........
Repeat. ONE VOTE.
Now there are some killer pictures that will be up there, one that I can think of that will knock some socks off and she is not in a 928.
So give your votes to the 928 gals so we have a great showing this year.
Angela put it out there last year and this years calender has been boosted on a sexy level by 10x (thanks Ang, love ya) We know the 911 guys will vote in the turtles, the 944's will vote in the slouches, the 356 guys will vote in the grandma's and, well, we can't count 996 people, they are a cross breed.
I think this year we can have the 928's dominate.

It is for CHARITY; not to see who's girlfriend, wife or friend 'puts out' -- well, in front of the camera, anyway.
It is for CHARITY; not to make sure someone who is in a similar model car doesn't get 'voted off.'
It is for CHARITY; you can rest easy now -- NO VOTE! ALL ARE EQUALLY 'IN'
It is for CHARITY; and you wonder why 928 owners are not often held in the highest regard in the Porsche community??
Thankfully I'm not a 'pigeonholed' Porsche owner, Rennlist member or woman!
(But if you are 'man enough,' you might think about apologizing to JoAnne)...
Respectfully,
Doc

Mea Culpa
It seems that my attempts at drumming up some comaraderie here on the 928 board and getting the calendar project back in the public eye were seen as being a little more heavy-handed than I had intended.
This calendar is, of course, FOR THE CHILDREN first and foremost. It's not a popularity contest, it's a charitable venture, nothing more. But it has to sell, too, or it isn't going to accomplish the goals of helping John and Jenn's kids.
Nevertheless, I want to apologize to Joanne publicly for what may have appeared to be some insensitivity on my part, when all I was trying to do was generate some attention on the calendar project, and inject a little fun into the proceedings with some lighthearted competition and calling-to-arms of the 928 troops. It was NOT meant as a jab at any of the other Porsche models, or WOR models, for that matter. I meant it all in fun.
Sigh. Perhaps my original idea of having a vote, when it seemed that there were too many women vying for the same 12 slots, was ill advised, in retrospect. But the concept of having 12 different votes for 12 different months was also considered and dropped as being too cumbersome. Originally, as Joanne has said, we were supposed to have over 20 submissions to be considered, so it seemed the only fair way to handle it at the time.
We could have made two calendars, I guess, but someone still would have been hurt if their calendar didn't sell as many as the other. And as it turned out, we didn't have enough submissions for that anyway, so that wouldn't have worked. Maybe we could do an 18 month calendar, but since many of us envisioned a yearly repetition of this effort, it would have left us with no product to sell come January 2010. We likely would have had to wait until July 2010 to really make any sales in the next round. So what else was there to do?
Finally, to those who object to the one man-one vote concept, please consider this: If we allowed everyone 12 votes, and only had 16 girls competing, that meant that every one of you fine gentlemen would have had to say to four girls who tried very hard (even if only in your own heads) that their efforts weren't good enough to make the grade. Could you have done that? I couldn't have, and I fully understand why Joanne was not anticipating the prospect of actually telling these girls that. If we all voted for only ONE picture, our favorite picture, then you only have to say you really liked this one the best of them all, not that the others weren't good enough. Right?
I would like to close with this offer. To all who are or were willing to make an effort, any effort, for the children, but who were unable to contribute in this particular project for whatever reason, I would like you to come up with an idea for a new project, a new product, that isn't limited to a once a year deal, and let's work on that too! I am more than willing to assist with any other projects that anyone wants to come up with. And Kevin is very willing to assist me with the packaging and shipping of any stuff we can come up with. All you need to do is think of a good project or product -- and remember that it's for the CHILDREN.
You all deserve to be put on a pedestal for even feeling that you would like to help the kids, to begin with. Even if you just purchase a calendar, that's an effort made on behalf of the children, and you should be applauded for your generosity of spirit.
But if you want to do more, and feel like this project wasn't your cup of tea, then whatcha got? I received an interesting offer from one of our vendors last year (I won't say who, so as to allow them to chime in on their own, if they wish) to make a couple of specific products to sell -- products that would appeal to both sexes, and all ages across the board. He was willing to make them for cost, and contribute all profits over cost to Rennwish. That was a terrific idea.
An idea that Kevin came up with was to perhaps do posters or playing cards next time. Joanne was already thinking of posters, as it turned out when I mentioned it to her. Great minds think alike, as usual. This is a great idea because it would allow a fluid number of women to get involved with their pictures in collage form, and you can put the calendar on the bottom half of the page. Or no calendar at all!
A deck of cards is in an interesting idea too, because it could have 52 different pictures! They don't necessarily all need to be the WOR, either...or they could be. Each model could have several different pictures/poses, or they could just put in one picture and the men could get in on the action and fill the empty slots with pictures of their beautiful cars too, so some cards could be cars and women, and others could be just cars...
It's a thought.
So, allow me to close here by once again apologizing to Joanne. I hope she can forgive me for being a doofus and inadvertently starting a war that I most certainly did not intend. I know personally how much work she has put into this project already, and it definitely wouldn't have gotten this far without her!
Let's all get together again and continue to perservere in our efforts, FOR THE CHILDREN!! Right folks?
Best to all,
Leslie

Perhaps we should require a calendar purchase if you vote...

DrJupeman....I spent a long time this morning thinking up that response, only to find you had beaten me to the punch, and much more eloquently than I! LOL. Thank you for your support.
If there are any here who feel I should back out of actually being in the calendar for any reason, I'm happy to do so...please just say so. I don't wish to be divisive in any way....but Kevin and I still would feel honored and privileged to be permitted to continue to handle the ordering and delivery logistics. Because we are doing this for the kids, not for ourselves, or any personal benefit. The satisfaction of knowing we helped some children less fortunate than our own is its own reward.

Put your money in the pot.
You get a vote to how gets in the calendar.
No calendar sale.
No Vote.
But you can still contribute to the cause and buy a calendar later.
Just don't get to help decide who gets into the calendar.

Thank you, Kevin! And thank you to all of you who had complimentary things to say...
I have to hand all the credit to my Kevin, though, who spent the past two weeks after our last abortive attempts attending home school, studying boring photo blogs to learn how to take pictures better. I think he passed his class with all "A's"!!!
