Default Spirited country mountain drive

With a couple of other 928's owners we did a 430 kilometre spirited drive over mountanious country roads last Saturday.

What a fantastic drive. My car performed faultlessly and much of the hilly driving was done in 3 gear using the engine, in the main to slow the car into the corners, take the line and power out like a sling shot. Great to feel the rear end steer out of the corners.

I have had my car for nearly 9 years and it is the first time I have gone driving for driving sake with out any purpose of actually going somewhere, fantastic.

It was purely, forget the price of the fuel, to drive the car as it was designed to be driven.

It has redefined what a great and safe car the 928 is.

Took the long way home (well a series of big loops adding 120kms to a 50km journey) from one of my construction sites today just because I could. Bliss. What was even better was everytime I came up behind someone they pulled over to let me pass. Somewhere, somehowe, someone in Australia in a 928 might just just have exceeded the highest speed limit in the land by a factor of 2.5.

I'm jealous of you guys /gals that live near mountains. If I lived in one of those areas... my wife would never see me.

Nothing like tackling the twisties!

I don't have anything near me that's like that, but when I go up to visit my brother in the Poconos:

I'm jealous too! My S4 is up on jack stands for the longest ever 2 or 3 not too technical maint jobs.

Keep thinking I'm going to get to them, but then life happens. I think I need to start working nights after work and just accept the fact that I won't get too much sleep for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, good job on the fun ride, its good motivation for me to get mine back on the road asap.

Something about having a 928 has to make you smile. You either get it or you do not. You can never explain it to those who do not...just feel sorry for them ! They have no idea what they are missing. Enjoy the car , the beauty of it's function even exceeds it's form. Porsche designed the 928 to be the VERY BEST SPORTS CAR that they could design and build at the time. No mention of GT, just the BEST. If you get one out on the racetrack D/E it is then that you see what the car is capable of doing.

REALLY! WOW...that is how I would clear my head in college after long study sessions! I had a 1980 Triumph Spitfire and the school was about 2 minutes from county roads that wove their way (and still do) around farms and such! No hills to speak of within 1.5 hours drive but the 90 deg turns around the corners of each farm plot were a fun time! Not to mention you could really see around the corners so you knew if you cold let it fly or not! Not that an '80 Spitfire does much flying, but you really needed to keep your momentum in that car...a whole 69HP in that bad boy! It could hardly get out of its own way.

I don't get to do that nearly as much today as I used to, but I try and go just to GO every month for at least an hour drive to no where... It is more fun in the 928's I'll tell you FOR SURE!

My first and second cars were 1979 Spitfires (coincidently sequentially number license plates). I thought they were sweet. In the first one, I was squashed between two huge Fords. It folded up like a banana, but I still drove it home. With the insurance check I bought the second, which I crashed. Those things would spin out at the drop of a hat.

I used to drive all over town most every day, top down, if I wasn't sitting on the front tire fixing it. The whole front end including fenders lifted up a la Jaguar, to work on the big 1500. Cool.

I parked next to one with my 928 a while back. Damn, those things are tiny in comparison!

A friend here in the 'hood has one! Retired guy...hardly drives it! If it were the same color as my Spitfire (think Kie's new Blue82 928) I would steal it from him just to have it in MY garage instead of his!

I LOVED sitting on the tire and working on/cleaning the car! Those cars are tiny aren't they?!

I never spun mine, but I managed to break my sway bar mount many times...much to the chagrin of my grandfather who would always weld it up again for me! Not sure I was ever that fast, but I thought I was driving the **** out of that car and I used to scare the **** out of people who would ride with me!
