Default GTG: Any Austin guys want to do a windshield replacement "party"?

I just had some new Sigla/Pilkington glass put into the S4 and am very happy with it and thought well the GT could use some new glass now!

So I figured I would see if anyone in the Austin area wants to get together for a glass install party. Its Sigla or Pilkington (sticker said pilkington, label in the glass says Sigla, so i imagine they are the same company) made in Finland and is the OE supplier at least for 1990 model year. My GT also has "Sigla" windshield with the Porsche "P", so I know its the original supplier for Porsche so all you OE guys will be as happy as i am.

I would love to find 4-5 other guys that maybe interested in this and I think we can do it for $300 per car for the glass and the install. For all the guys with radio antenna's in the glass (pre 89?) The cost maybe more or less, not sure, i just thought about that as there are differences.

If anyone in Austin is interested let me know here or via PM. Maybe we can set something up for a weekend coming up here.

If someone also wants to volunteer to host that could be cool too. I have 4 cars at the house and only 6 spots to park cars so my place isnt ideal.

Wish I lived near you. I have replaced the windshield in my 81' and it was actually quite easy. I did not have the antenna to deal with during my install. The worst part of the job was getting all of the old adhesive off of the windshield frame.

Same here. More than happy to 'help' though, Ryan. Say where and when.

But do you really want us with NO experience assisting you with this install? Give us a waiver beforehand if we break it?

Except for the above all I've ever seen are "Oops" posts.

no no no i wouldnt want anyone's help. I found a california guy here in Austin and i used him to replace the glass on the S4. So i thought that if anyone else wanted to get some new windshields and have them installed $300 was a damn good price.

I am selling the GT so i wouldnt never enjoy the new clear glass so i probably wont do it if it was just me.

Just thought i would throw it out there, i think you 2 are most of the Austin group on here so i wont persue it anymore. I think its really something people do only when its necessary, not the greatest thing in the world for a preventative measure.

carry on

Default I'm interested.

Ryan,

Just don't think I can do it before the middle of August.
About 2-3 weeks ago I talked with a guy in Houston who told me he was looking for a GT did he call you?

Default Any more updates on your glass guy?

Today I got hit by rock on the windshield/passenger side and it left a large star burst which I had fixed right away however it's still visible.

So replacement has moved up on my priority list.

if we dont get a group purchase together i will forward you the information on the guy who put mine in.

Actually i see seabrook is outside houston, so an Austin installer may not be much of a help to you.
