Question Anyone Know brunoalias aka Bruce Ebaymotors?

See listing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsc...3911.m14.l1318

Something strikes me as odd about this. My wife and I can't figure out where these photos are taken...doesn't look like anywhere around here (and we are from Cedar Rapids). Car was, is, and has been titled in Illinois.

All of his contact info is transient as well and a recent sale showed a different cell number, for a 911. Same type of nebulous advertising sloganry with no real info about the car. Nevertheless, I might look at it if it is indeed local and not a scam.
Description "bought it for wife, she 'upgraded' to SLK" doesn't make any sense either. Something not fitting here. I emailed him to see where car was actually located. Anyone had experience with Bruce of brunoalias@gmail.com?

So this is one of those de-tuned 928Ss running only 239HP for economy reasons.

Well, I don't think it matters where they were taken; these are artsy, but don't really show much detail: credit for art, demerit for lack of usable info. Maybe he is hiding, maybe not, but the transient issue is real. Bottom line is he will cooperate with an inspection or he will eliminate himself from wasting your time. Sellers are also dealing the flakes, teenagers and tire kickers.

David,

I was down to CR to look at the yellow 911 SC he for sale a couple of weeks ago. He seemed like a nice guy, nice home just off of 218. The 911 was in pretty rough shape, but I was expecting too much for the price it was offered at. Anyway, i noticed the 928 sitting in his garage so i trotted in there to take a look, with his permission of course. The 928 was a little rough on the outside, the vinyl beading between the front fenders and the bumper was popped out in a few places and the paint was just OK. The interior looked decent although the Pod had been removed for some work. He told me he was having a gauge repaired.

Very nice guy, but he didn't strike me as being very mechanically inclined. During my short visit with him i kind of got the impression that he buys older Porsches and flips them for profit. He also has a 964 carrera 2 for sale right now, i wish he would have shown that one to me, it appears to be much nicer than the SC, perhaps he didn't have it at the time. I can never tell from the pictures people use to display the car, they only show what they want you to see.

Oh, and his wife did pull up in an SLK just as we were leaving. The guy is legit, but his idea of a, "very nice car" somewhat differs from mine. I think he buys his Porsches from the Chicago area, that's where he said the SC was from when i asked, probably why the cars are titled/registered in Illinois.

Thanks, Ben. I'm glad to get some observations on the car from someone 928-knowledgeable and whom I trust. I'll probably pass on this one. But it's interesting to have one come up in our neck of the woods. Doesn't happen often. I also see there is a euro for sale in Waterloo.

There is also an S4 in Moline for $7800 that looks promising other than it being brown and having the old-school BBS honeycomb type wheels. Check autotrader for that one.

I could see the front spoiler was deranged a bit on the passenger side and was clearly broken. That could have also caused a slight bend in the front fender along the edge of the wheel well also. Not a RARE color either. Tons of Baltic (or equivalent) blues out there from that period.

Looked like a decent car, but again the pics were not good for telling just how good or bad the thing really is.

That's just it, a picture only shows what the photographer wants you to see. In the case of the 911SC I went to look at, this seller didn't want me to see or failed to note:

The missing door pockets/armrests
The broken passenger side door handle
The Hideous overspray and improperly/incompletely masked parts of the car
The continously leaking engine case.

.... and a number of other things that will go unmentioned, but you get the idea?

And the Illinois title thing really eats at me. I don't think that's according to Hoyle. If a guy buys a car, he should title it in his name, not make me title it when he's been sitting on a signed out-of-state title. How do I know that's legitimate? I don't know John Doe from Illinois.

Oh, after a quick buzz on the web, there are a few requirements to become a dealer in Iowa. A $50K bond must be filed with the DOT. You must have an actual zoned placed of business that includes both an office and at least one stall to recondition and detail vehicles. There are other requirements for car dealers in the State of Iowa, too, it seems:

http://www.dmv.org/ia-iowa/dealer-licensing.php

http://www.dot.state.ia.us/mvd/ovs/dealer.htm

According to the site, if you sell more than six cars a year, you must be licensed and bonded. This guy might very well be selling far fewer than that and know the limitation.
