Question outside air temp sensor

we're doing a few odds and ends under Mike's car today, and one is to put a new alternator cooler hose on. When we opened up the wheel well, there is no outside air temp sensor in there. It's an 84 US model. Should there be one? If so, where does the it plug into on the engine side? Thanks.....

Hi Ed,
There should be a sensor which plugs into a socket in a short piece of metal in the alternator cooling hose. Did you find any wires that the sensor was previusly connected to. I bought a used sensor from 928 Int'l for about $70 and it works great. Without a working outdoor sensor (and inside cabin temp sensor) you A/C control works to give full hot or full cold only.
Good luck,
