Default Heater Valve

Hey guys. I have used the search and also the Pirtle site in regards to R&R on the Heater Valve. If I apply vacuum to the heater valve, the arm does move. Also when I adjust the temp setting from cold to warm on the HVAC unit the air does change temp, but when I change it back to full cold, it still seems a little to warm.

I am wondering if the valve is not closing all the way. My question is this:

1. If the air temp does seem to change when sliding the HVAC temp slider, does that mean the vacuum is good from the HVAC to the Heater Valve?

2. If I am getting somewhat warm air even if the HVAC is set to full cold, does that indicate the HV is letting coolant through, despite the Valve opening and closing when I used the Mity Vac to test it.

3. Has any one else used the suggestion on the Pirtle site with a generic Heater Valve from NAPPA.

Thanks gents!
Shawn

It should give you the same result as tying it full closed with a plastic tie and seeing if you have full cold at the vents. If you do then the problem is probably in the vent diaphrams. Have you made certain that you have a full charge in the system?

Thanks Charley.

I was actually referring to the HVAC without the AC engaged.
Seems to me the air coming through the vents is heated a bit, instead of cool.............

If I do engage the AC, I do notice the air getting cooler then without.

I will try the plastic tie to keep the HV closed and see what I get..............that should point me in the right direction.

Also the recirculation flap under the glove box on the passenger side.
Recirc closes so A/C doesn't have to keep cooling the outside warm air.

I've also been advised to examine the plastic shroud/rubber seal at the base of the windshield under the hood. The seal keeps the really hot engine bay heat from being sucked into the HVAC intake.

I had an issue with my heater valve where it wouldn't shutoff completely even when fully closed. There are small seals inside the valve that go bad. The best bet is to replace the valve (pretty cheap, as I recall) and then see if that fixes the residual hot air problem. If not, then it may be a leaking recirc flap as Ernest suggests.
