I removed the PAS pump and bracket from my S4 today in preparation for reconditioning the pump. I thought I may as well do this while replacing the frayed belt and leaking supply hose as it isn't much extra work to remove the pump entirely.
The cassette on which the pump/bracket mounts is an amazingly solid piece of metal! Everything also cleans up really well when off. I noted that the ZF pump had a Jul 87 date on it (my car was registered Oct 87) and is marked 75 bar (or was it 75 psi?). I made sure to verify that the shorter 13mm bolt holding alt/PAS cassette to block is the one closer to crank.
Have ordered reconditioning kit from local Porsche dealer.
I've watched the Rennbay pump reconditioning video but just wondered if there were any other tips for this or whether anyone had done this. The pulley spins freely and there's no play so I wonder if I'll feel any improvement when it's reconditioned? Looks like the bolts holding the pump halves together are very tight and of course it's no longer on car so harder to exert torque. Maybe I should just try to put a foot on the pump while breaking the torque? How tight do the bolts need to be when re-assembling the pump - I don't want any leaks out the pump!
