928-old to new??
Hi everybody. I`m Kaj from Norway. I have now purchased a 928 after years of 944`s and other ****cars (not the 944s):-)
I am confused about the rear end of mine, which is the old type. I would like to have it changed to the new type...like the s4..Do the fit bolt on?
Thanks.

Rear light shape and mounting location is different between '78-86 and '87-95 model years. Its not possible to install S4 rear lights into earlier body without body modifications. This is perfectly doable and many people have done it but job is not just bolt on task.

The picture in my avatar is an 83S model with the same work performed.
consider:
cost of bumper cover, cost of lights, cost of wiring harness, cost of bumperettes.
The wiring will need to be stripped and spliced, the connectors do not match.
cost of paint. IIRC The aluminum bumper (under the cover) is placed higher on the pre S4, sooo the bumperettes will not bolt on to the actual bumper making them cosmetic only. You did not mention the year of the car so I will throw in a spoiler comment to consider. On the OB you are golden, adding a wing is verry simple. Removing the S spoiler and the effects that has on the QTR glass is significant both in time and money. If you love the style of the S4 rear and want to keep the car forever, great....if you are looking for a fun project to occupy your time & money, great.....if you anticipate recovering any of the money you are about to spend when it comes time to sell......then I would find some other way to "upgrade" your car. I could have purchased a supercharger with the money I have spent on body mods. I love it, I enjoyed it, but I would not do it again.

Wow you guys are great. Know what your talking about clearly. Thanks alot.
My first 928..and it is originally a 78 US model. But has had a new engine fitted in 96 from a S which is a factorybuilt new one, and exterior is "S". Still like it alot, just like the S4 *** better:-)

Kaj, please think about it for a while!
Your car will probably loose value by doing this modification and you might change your mind after a while...
I had similar thoughts on "upgrading" the look of my shark when I bought it, but as the years have passed I have now changed my mind. The original 928 without the S spoilers is the purest form in my opinion.
Many OB (Old Buggers - meaning the pre "S" cars) has sagging rear suspension and no spacers for the rear wheels. A little suspension tweaking and a set of original spacers to bring the rear wheels out will go a long way to help your car look fresh.
Where do you live Kaj, I'm from Norway too!
