Default RABBITS ATTACK 84 928

While moseying down a local road two wabbits jumped out of the brush and into my path, automatically swerved to avoid the #$@%&^ and ended up going down an embankment. End result -need complete paint job -it was due anyway- but also lost all electrical charging capacity.
Found one of the two terminal wires on the alternator had become seperated so rejoined same wire and expected that all would be normal - -not so, still no charging. I will check voltage output at alternator terminals and work backwards but any other suggestions for solving this?
Next time it will be wabbit stew!

Let me guess... "it wasn't wabbit huntin' season" yet, huh?

Seriously though, sorry about your mishap.

Sorry to hear that. I hope the body panels don't need some major dents pulled after that mishap.

You might want to consider some on track time , D E events greatly improve driver awareness, car control and quick decision making. Knowing how a car reacts to differing inputs and how to recover can be very useful and it is great FUN !!

FOR sure...the decision is always, HIT THE RABBIT, SQUIRREL, DEER, etc! Insurance will be more willing to pay for a repaint due to and act of god like that vs. I swerved and ran head on into oncoming traffic and everyone died! I happens all the time...we do HATE running over animals like that, but it is ALWAYS better to take them out and maintain control of your car vs. a terrible potential alternative.

Sorry for your accident, that really SUCKS! Good luck w/ the repair and I hope it does not take much to get your beast fully functional again and sounds like it will look better than ever to boot now!

One more vote for "kill the wabbit", and while you're at it take the cannoli.
Sorry it happened.

Monty Python did a whole movie that ended up with a killer rabbit............perhaps the ones you avoided were offspring.

Default Waky Wabbits

Hey Jeff and all who responded - - -thanks for the kind words!
There are only two softball sized dents with no creases so hopefully they will pop out without a trace. RE: the cost for paint job - - over the years I've heard as much as $11k for a "strip off every bit of non_paintable surface and lay on numerous coats for a top notch job ". The garage in town that services Porsches and the like take all of their painting requirements to - hang on to your lunch- the GM dealer and according to the garage - the paint work is the best he's seen and had his two 928 s done there with "great finishes". I'll check out several recent paint jobs to confirm.

I have a friend who took his GM car to the body shop at the local M-B dealership for some insurance bodywork and paint. He was assured that the paint work on his Buick would be exceptional. It was exceptional, for a Buick. It wasn't quite up to the finish on the new M-B cars in the showroom. Bottom line is that the paint is done there based on the standards of the cars they paint, not on what cars they sell. So maybe getting the Porsche painted at the GM store is OK. They likely have the most experienced painters and the better equipment. Do they have the talent and patience to work through all the prep steps needed on the aluminum panels? Will they do all the stripping and prep on the PU bumpers, or do a scuff-seal-shoot on them like they do on the 'Murican sleds that are their regular bread-and-butter? And who gets to buy all the moldings, trim bits, weatherstripping and seals needed to put the thing back together? Most commercial body shops just mask over the expensive and labor-intensive stuff like that, and blend it with clear over the sharp tape edges later.

+1 on kill the rabbit from experience

Result of my rabbit hunting in the 928....1 very dead rabbit (was running 120+ MPH), front spoiler destroyed, grill destroyed, no other damage of consequence (at least to the car or me, the rabbit however had seen a few better days)

I hit a big possum once riding late at night going about 100 or so on a motorcycle, now that scared the crap outta me. I saw the bastard and just braced and it was like THUD and the bike popped up in the air and then settled, no damage. Was very glad I had a steering damper.

Pics o wabbits or pics of the scratched up car??? Of the car agreed, having done several audi resto's and a couple p-cars, the only blind advice I would give to to make sure you know what level of prep the paint shop is going to provide.... once you get into things like r&r of trim vs mask, things get spendy quickly.
