Default Cam cover question- Filling Casting flaws?

I'm trying to get my cam covers looking as nice as possible before putting them back on and I'm surprised at the quality (or lack of quality) of the casting. I saw it when Adam G. had his PC-ed over the winter, and I see the same imperfections on the lower left side of the cover on both of mine. It looks like a huge gash in the cover that was repaired poorly and I guess filled with really thick primer.

My question is: What can I use to smooth this out and get it to look halfway decent?

I've grinded down the high points but the high temp primer I've got isn't a 'high build' type so it really isn't going to hide anything at all. Can I use some kind of bondo or JB weld on this? Will it separate at the first heat cycle and flake off?

Anyone else dealt with this? I'm not looking for car show quality, but I do want it to look good.

Evercoat makes metal reinforced filler that would work. There's another company that others have mentioned, but I can't remember the name.

Hey Mike,

The stuff you want is called "lab metal." It's an aluminum based product that fills imperfections very well. It goes on like autobody plastic filler and is paint-friendly.
