Question New Member...nice site

Hi,

I picked up a 82 928 70K on it that sat in a garage for ten years because the "clutch was shot" .....welded the crack in the pedal clutch is fixed. (Ex wife got the camera or i would post some pics )

Parts into it so far
plugs
wires
cap
rotor
battery
tires

Still need to do fuel filter wrong one was odered and vacuum hoses

heading out to finish cleaning grounds up
While poking around with my meter the temp time switch didnt ring out right
from G to ground cold i had 35ohms and hot i had 69ohms
from W to ground cold i had 0ohms 139ohms hot
from W to G 35 cold 69 hot

temp sensor switch is 290 ohms hot

also found no load switch not making up ---adjusted so it just makes when closed
wot switch would work unless you really pushed hard then it would pass switch and open again

My problem is........

car starts nice hot or cold
has a slight miss at idle and up to 2000rpm after 2000 its more of a slight surge and pulls up to 5000 no problem runs better when you drive it hard instead of when you pull away slow (insert funny comment now)

and after adjusting switch when i put clutch in switch gears rpms dive fast almost to a stall but recovers fast

could the G to ground reading give me any of those problems (dont know this system well YET only been 2 weeks)
any ideas would cool

thanks Jeff

Also consider that your injectors might be partially clogged. Run a strong batch of techron through , and see what you get. Also assume that the O2 sensor is probably original to the car.

After a 10 year "rest" it would be advisable to replace all the soft fuel lines.

Im on the 3rd tank full and 2 bottles of injector cleaner and thanks for reminder on soft fuel hoses when i pulled cover to change fuel filter the soft hose from the tank was SOFT forgot about that

I hate to just change parts out but i guess a 27 yr old O2 sensor is a no brainer

thanks jeff

There are a number of soft hoses in the engine compartment that are suspect at their age regardless if they have been sitting for 10 years. Change them all out so you don't have a problem with fuel leakage or worse yet a fire.

Roger at 928sRus (sponsor here) has a good fuel line replacement kit. All you need to do is tell him what year you have and he can set you up.

PS- we call them 'soft' fuel lines, but after 20+ years, you won't recognize them as such. But they should be.

My money is on a vacuum leak, You should probably get a set of nice new rubber intake boots and at least do the ones up top, if not an entire intake refresh. There is also an O-ring at the base of the MAF that you can replace without getting in too far. Any leaks in the intake will cause rough idle and possible other issues.

I'm with Mike, check vacuum system for leaks.

Since you're just down the road (a bit I know) you should try and come on out to a few Niagara Region events, then I won't be the only 928 there..... Even check out or DE come October, Mike may even be there....
