View Poll Results: Does your 87 or 88 fuel pump run with the engine off, but the ignition on?
I have an 89 or later, and my pump runs with the ignition on... I know, it's strange

Poll: Does your 87-88 fuel pump run when ignition is on but engine is not running?

Drifting
I have an 87 and my fuel pump kicks on momentarily when the ignition is first turned on before cranking (1 or 2 seconds).
On your advice, I switched the horn and FP relays to get to SITM last year and haven’t had a problem with either system since.
Note to self, do not leave ignition switched on for extended periods of time.

hmmm me too
Well I don't think we have a statistically significant sample yet, but I find it interesting that a few 88's do not run (the way I thought it should be).
Let's let this one percolate a bit more.
And Jim... your explanation of why this is a BAD thing is precisily why I'm posting this poll. Lots of dangerous things can happen as a result...

Andrew, I'm getting ready to send this particular ecu back to JDS to be rebuilt but before I do, I'd really like to try it in someone elses car to be certain it is defective. I've gone thru everything and the LH is getting all of the singals, power and grounds at the correct values. As I'm in metro Detroit, and you are the Detroit area guru, any chance we could try it in your car or someone else local????
Thanks gang,
Todd

Neither of my OB's do, Shane's 86.5 doesn't, neither do Tim's cars (87 & 88).
Both of my OB's turn on the fuel pump for a brief second when you turn the key.

I'm currently troubleshooting a bad LH and have been speaking with Mr. Speake about it. When the car in question last ran, it would energize the pump for a second or so upon turning the key to the on position. Then, it would shut off unitl cranking. John, perhaps this is the 1 in 600...
