Default Junk Center Console Hinge!

The other day I slammed the shark hard in to a 90 degree turn and too my surprise I broke the plastic hinge for the center console lid. I guess I hit the corner so hard that I braced myself on the center console without even realizing it. I know I can obviously buy a new one but before I did I wanted to know if anyone has found a better solution than the junk plastic hinge. It will be just a matter of time till the new plactic hinge work hardens from use and splits again. Any suggestions? Jason

Well the original lasted 27 years. The replacement should last just as long. Sounds to me like the original design meets all of the requirements.

Just my $.928 cents.

Jim not sure if that's the truth. I bought the car used in fact very used and it may have been replaced. When I bought the car the center console section with the door was unscrewed from the floor for some reason.

I restored a few of those center armrests ,
7 out of 10 have their lid cracked from leaning on them too heavily with the elbow. But I rarely see a broken hinge. Those hinges are well designed and last a long time.

Paul with your recommendation I must need to just order a new one. You are talking about the plain plastic version on the OB's right? Is the design the same on the S4's?

As far as I know, they are all the same, parts # is: 928.555.701.02
Roger should have a few in stock.
Be careful not to over torque the screws. That's the main problem with these boxes, the screws strip if you look at them too hard

Can you fit a gun in the cassette box?

I don't really understand how someone drives whilst leaning on the cassette box or the window sill.
Went to a smaller Momo wheel (350mm from 380?mm factory stock) so I don't get as much steering boost as others.

I don't lean on either all the time it's just when I'm driving it like a Porsche and not a Yugo
