Default Spokane Raceway Park..cleanup day (928 Track Attack )

Hi all,
Our local track that hosts our semi-annual 928 Track Attack has undergone an ownership change (County bought at auction) and they are thinking of making a go of running it as a County property (similar to Portland Intl. Raceway). Anyway, they are looking for volunteers to help clean it up before the first event (our Track Attack on July 12).
I just wanted to post the info here for anyone who is in the area and can assist..Spread the word if you can...If we lose this venue..then our cheap track days are all but gone...

Dear Friend of Spokane County Motorsports Park,
You are receiving this email because you asked to be put on this list.

The time and date for our cleanup are fast approaching. Subject to Judge Austin's approval on Thursday, we are scheduled to have our track cleanup on Saturday 6/28 from 9AM to 3PM.
Please note, if Judge Austin does not approve the County purchase the cleanup will be postponed. You will receive a followup email from me confirming this.

However, with less than 2 weeks until our cleanup day, we need to keep moving forward.

Let's show the County that we appreciate their efforts to secure SCMP for our use!!!

Here s what we need:
We need all of the volunteers we can get to assist with the track cleanup. I have about 300 names on the list, and if we can pull this into a response such as the County meeting at the Fairgrounds, where we had over 500 in attendance, we will send a terrific message to our County Commissioners in support of their purchase decision.

www. spokanecounty.org has details and information on the cleanup, but here are the basics:

We have broken out the cleanup into about 10 areas. If you can participate, we'll ask you to help in one of the common areas, and in the area of your interest: circle, drag, road.

Sign-in volunteers: Everyone will be required to sign in as they enter the track property. This is a County insurance requirement. We need 4-6 volunteers to handle the sign-ins.

Crew Leaders: We need about 10 volunteers to take a leadership position, and head up one of the 10 work crews. Training for crew leaders will be done on Friday June 27 at 6PM, or Saturday morning at 7:30 AM. You will basically oversee safety for your group, and organize a group in a certain area.

Cleanup Volunteers: We will have groups of 10-20 volunteers assigned to different areas to accomplish a thorough cleanup. We will be picking up trash and debris, and just piling recyclables for later pickup. (recyclables will be picked up by a recycler who will also pick up the barrels of waste oil and other items. He will use the scrap revenue to offset the disposal costs of the waste oil). This is a perfect opportunity for a club or group to work together in a specific area. If your group wants to form an entire team, then I need to hear from one person and we will work this out.

What you should bring:
Rakes, shovels, Push brooms, and wisk brooms - If you put your name and phone on them, we can call you when it gets left behind.
Work gloves
10 Pickup trucks, several with flat trailers - There are tires and barrels galore that need to be relocated. Bring your truck to help move this stuff. If you have a flatbed, please bring it

What you should let me know you are willing to bring:
Bucket loaders, from tractors with a bucket, to larger- it will make cleanup easier if we can fill a bucket and then dump it in a dumpster.
dump truck
rough terrain fork lift - We could use one of these to pick up a few items.

Contributions:
We appreciate everyone pitching in! But there will be some expenses that the County cannot or will not cover. If you or someone you know would like to contribute, please let me know. This can be made as a charitable 501C3 contribution through the Spokane County Parks Foundation. Corporate donors get their name on the T-shirt and media backdrop.
Lunch - We will be providing lunch, and 250 people at $10/head is $2500. (Please don't suggest we barbeque, the County health district ruled that out for this event)
T-shirts - We would like to provide a unique participant T-shirt. Again, about $2500.
Disposal fees- Tire disposal fees run $950 for a trailer that holds 800-900 tires. There are about $5000 worth of disposal fees for tires alone. (the County is covering the trash disposal fees)

If you would like to donate funds or goods, please let me know ASAP. sadare@aol.com.

RSVP:
Everyone! Please let me know you will be coming. Email to fosrp@aol.com providing your full name, your area of interest (drag, circle, road) and let me know you will be there. While the cleanup goes from 9-3, if you can participate for part of the day, that is great! It is hard to plan lunch unless we know how many will be there.

Remember, while OUR "diamond in the rough" track sorely needs the cleanup, it really needs you to show that you care. Please be there and make the County proud of its purchase!

Please forward this information to others you know that would be interested in participating.

Great opportunity...Thanks for the invitation

BTW, there's one councilperson who opposes the Raceway. A good turnout will make it more difficult for her to shut the track down. If this track goes away, then it's a long drive to Seattle or Portland.
