Default trouble after SITM

I have read others post about trouble on the way home and thought I would share my tale of wo.
4 hours into a 14 hours drive back to KcMo , 95 degree sunny weather, I was passing a slow moving truck and saw a flash of grey smoke with a preceding whine for a second or so...and thought oh that poor guy blew a tire...NOPE ! I looked in my rear view mirror and saw tons of grey smoke from MY car...the gauges were all in their standard normal spot then 10 seconds later no more cold air. ARGHHH I broke my ac belt...But didn't hurt anything else. And had a very hot ride back to KC... It just Idles at 900 to 1100 now and was the usual lower 600ish rpm...I am doing a search now!
Thanks for listening!!

Make sure the belt didn't take anything out.

When my air pump belt took a walk it shredded the alternator cooling hose.
Lots of little metal rings and hose material on the bellypan.

Thank god that's all the trouble you had. I gotta say, my old 1981 L-jet car performed flawlessly for over 2000 miles miles i put on her in the week and a half I was down there. There's something to be said for simplicity!

We made it back without too much trouble, one more power loss incident. It looks like fuel pressure might be the issue, as Mike was trying to keep it running I popped the hood and checked the fuel pressure and it was dropping. Sat for 5 minutes and it ran fine all the rest of the way home.

We lost the shifter cup in Indianapolis, talked to Jeannie who put us in touch with Hans who lives there. He put us in touch with a good local shop that took care of that for us. They also found that something was wacked with the alignment, the inside edge of the fronts was gone. They put on a couple 70% tires they had out back and aligned it so we could make it home..

While we were in Indianapolis we went to the speedway museum, it wasn’t a bad extra day on the trip.

I ordered a fuel filter, check valve and fuel pump relay, going to replace them before doing much driving to see if they take care of it.

Hope it's just the fuel pump relay getting tired and not the fuel pump, Dan.
Hungry engine is not a happy engine.

Good to see you guys again.
