S4 has 18" so that is definitelly part of the problem.

I think for many people just doing new Bilsteins with stock springs would make them very happy.

Chuck...I might have some input here. The 85 I just bought from Carl has close to Race Mod 800/400 with Koni reds on stock wheels. I also have an 82 with Koni/Eibach set up on 205/50/17s front and 255/40/17s rear. They feel very similar in some ways but the 82 has a harsher ride. I suspect this is due mostly to the tires. The 85 does feel more planted in the front but a little more floaty in the rear. Opposite that on the 82. I have yet to really test the 85 very hard. I might be making a trip to DFW in the near future and you'd be welcome to drive the 85.

Thanks all for your input. I may need to get the new wheels and tires first before hitting the Spring/shock route so I can get a baseline. I've got stock wheels and tires now, but will probably end up with 18's front and rear. Really like the 295 rear and 255 front setup that Jim and Roger are running.

ive gone for 550/350 on my road car with carls hypercoil/koni setup and it works very well. the track car has revalved blisteins and i echo 928/rc51 that the bilsteins dont have enough damping as standard for stiffer springs, but they are a good shock.

Nick,

Is your road car the 79? My 79 feels worlds lighter than the GTS, not sure if those springs would feel the same on a lighter and a heavier car??!!

chuck, yes thats in the 79. i once changed a set of bilstein/eibach suspension from an 86 to a later heavier car and i felt it more in the shock struggling to control the damping rather than excessive roll or anything else.

I'm thinking I just need to take some time, find a similar later model w/the Hypercoil/Koni's and evaluate again before I pull the trigger on anything. I drove 2 cars with the Bilstein/eibach setup at 3rd coast this last year (both ob's) and thought it was a little too jarring, but again, this would probably not translate ob to later model.
