Hello all,
Came back from work at a moderate speed. Shut down the engine for one and half hour. Start the car again to move inside the garage for bedtime and got a very brief "CAT temp too high" message. It disapeared almost immediatly.
1- What could be the cause?
2- How concern should I be?
3- Any risk driving the car if that condition appears again?
The owner manual is of not help since it's in japanese!
Thanks.
Michel.

Japanese models had this feature. If temp was too high at cat outlet, pod will display message. It should not have come on with engine off for 1.5 hrs. Possibly cat is holding heat or an intermittent failing sensor. How does car run ?

Hi,
my ex Japan has this option. The wires don't go to the sensors anymore (PO delete?) but are hanging around loose making occaisional ground with the chasis & producing this message. I tried tracking down the ends of the wires & adding some insulation tape - so far so good. I have been told that on the later models (?89+?) these are not required or important.

Thanks for your replies.
Took the car this morning for a drive. Everything was normal. Engine runs great.
I'll wait and see if it happens again and investigate more thoroughly at that point.
Thanks again.

Hello all,
For the past week I get once in a while a brief "CAT TEMP TOO HIGH" pod message at engine startup. The message disappears by itself a few seconds after. Engine is always cooled down when this condition occurs. I don't feel any change in the engine operation.
Anybody can tell me what the owner manual says about that (mine is in japanese!)? What should be my reaction if this happens on the highway? If the system is faulty, where should I look to correct that? It is not part of the 928 repair manual.
Thanks.
Michel.

Micheal...
You should re-read the FAQ at the top of the page. It is very hard for us to help you without knowing what year car you have.
Based on the message you are getting I assume it is an 89 or higher.
But I've never hear of a "Cat Temp Too High" message. If it's only at startup, it must be a fault with the sender.

I'm not too sure about what I've done wrong in the forum. My appologies. First forum I use ever! I guess it has to do with the second thread for the same subject.
Thank you Andrew for the pod message list. It is very informative and helpful. I suspect they meant "gas" instead of "grass". What do you think?
Regards.

No... if the cats are hot, you could start a Grass fire. Fire in Japan is very bad becasue the houses are so close together, so they take every precaution to prevent fires.
