Default no brake lights / headlights

I have no brake lights and no headlights on the '82.
Wiggling the cables behind the ignition switch, the headlights come up on pos 2 with ignition. But no lights. Only fog and highbeams in the bumper work.
This is a bit of a problem since I have a track day on Saturday.

I think it is the ignition switch.

What can I do? I need to get the brake lights to work.

Have you checked the basics, fuses and relays ? If wiggling the ign switch gives some activity, it is suspect.

just came back from the garage.
Once the car is running, I have to turn the ignition switch just a tad back and they work. So I guess it is the switch. I should be able to get by for the short term.
Since this is a track car, removing the ignition switch and lock would probably be best going forward.
How would I go about that?

There was a recent thread about this. The switch is easy, but you want to disable the steering lock also. Mark Kibort has done it (IIRC). You might want to do a search or pm him.

I'd keep the electrical part of the lock/swicth as is - don't screw with it - or in your case just replace it with new. You can still delete the key part and just have a **** activate the switch part. Thats what I'd do - rewiring it is more trouble than its worth IMO.

My 83 was doing that. It was also disabling the windows. The PO spent a fortune trying to fix this. My wife spent a lot of time fiddling w/fuses. One day she noticed that everything would work when she turned the switch ON to see if she had fixed anything, but when she started the car, everything went back to crap. Just turn the key back slightly til the brake light warning goes out w/your foot on the petal.
Gonna put the new switch in after SITM..and new shocks.. and fix some leaks..and a new sound system.. and recover the dash....and the seats......
