Have you tried to reverse the polarity to get it to run backwards for a few seconds? Suposedly that will cause it to cough up all the nasty ish that it gets gummed up with. It's worth a try.

Early S4's only have the external one. Internal wasn't put back in again until '89.

Instead, early S4's have the additional in-tank filter screen.

the 87-88 normally only has the external pump.

If it is a matter of getting one quickly, I have one in the box never used. NEW Pt. # 928 608 104 02.

I have plenty of time to get another one (engine still out of the car). NO SITM for me!

I could overnite it to you for Sat. delivery (at your cost) or mail it priority Mail for 190.00$ total.

I just had this thought that Florida isn't that big a state, and Sarasota can't be more than... 475 %^#$ miles from Santa Rosa Beach. Not quite a quick dash to pick up a part.
