Howdy -

I just discovered a light on my passenger door that doesn't go off, even when the door is closed. Key is not in car, nor is engine running - open door and even push the little button that controls the "Door open buzzer", and the light remain on. Any ideas?

Now I'm starting to get paranoid about the light inside my refrigerator...

it will drain the battery. I have seen previous threads about this, and how to disengage it...

Have you manually turned off all the other lights in your interior? If so, then you have a short somewhere in one of the lights, with the most likely culprit being the
light between the sunvisors. When there is a short to one of the interior lights, I think the system works as though the door is open. People can manually turn off all the lights they see, but you can't do that with the door-edge lights.

Pull that out and see if it is making contact with the roof. Clean the contacts, put it back in place. Check your other interior lights the same way. May be a bad ground or other issue.

Also, don't forget that the door marker light is on the same timed circuit as the courtesy lights, so it will take a few seconds to turn off once the door switch is depressed.

Your interior lights don't work do they? - they are all turned to the "off" mode aren't they....?

If above is true it just means your interior light relay is always on - these are controlled the same way (as noted above) - if the one in the other door isn't on its probably just because its burned out..

I just found out that PO pulled these bulbs out of both door..........

Q. Does this do any harm?

Q. Which bulb should I buy to replace? same as in side marker bulbs??

Russ, there is a little guy that lives in your fridge. He is responsible for turning out the light so dont worry. I thought everyone knew that?

I must be weird. The first thing I do when I get a new 928 is to fix all the interior/door lights. Then I fix the remote trunk release and the rear wiper. It ends up taking me 30 minutes and solves many battery draining issues. It seems others just disconnect these things instead.

Doesn't this symptom mean that at least one of your interior lights is plugged in incorrectly? It seems as if I had the same problem on the Schwartz and what I found was that the door light was plugged in backwards/upside down/bassackwards whatever.

I did end up replacing the red safety lights with LEDs and like them real well

I did the same thing with my former '89 928 S4, the problem was the switch in the trunk that was broken and kept the lights on inside the doors. This is a common problem, as I recall it's a small plastic piece that usually brakes.

Isn't that red light the one that comes on only when the door is open? I thought that was triggered by the door switch, not the interior light circuit. The door switch is the one that also informs the alarm system.

No thats wrong and wrong... It is the doorswitch and thats what triggers the interior lights while the alarm is triggered by the door locks...

It could mean that - but that is only one possibe source - more common is a broken hatch pin switch (or possibly a door pin switch) or a failed interior light relay.

If this happens you will have a current drain even if you remove all the interior light bulbs - so it needs to be fixed...

My interior lights turn off imediately when the door closes, where is the light delay relay? Also my door interior lights do not come on when I open the rear hatch, all the other interior lights do(rear hatch, front hatch, roof). Is this a typical setup? The door lights and all the interior lights come on when I open a door. Are the door lights only activated by the door switch?
