Default Polishing my Spider (pic)

So I decided to polish my spider. I know, "That's sooo last year" but I took the plunge anyway.
Man, my finger tips are killing me. I've got the top of the Body to 1000 grit and the Legs to 320. I started with he 3M Roloc Blue disks to take most of casting pits off and then began the sanding process. I'm sure I could start actually polishing the Body and continue sanding the legs but since I've got 80% of the imperfections taken care and I'm sick of looking at Sand Paper, I think I'll Chrome Powder coat the assembly. I found a place down the road from the house that'll do it for $150. Not the Jet-hot like Randy recommends but the regular.

Opinions?? This place is never in short supply of those.

I did this to the oil filler/separator and am not sure I like the look of the polished parts on the 928.

Just my $0.02

Very nice! Use clear engine paint to protect from tarnishing.

You could also anodize to protect the finish but you will use some of the gloss, I just polished my wheels, it is quite a ****ty job isn't it!

Cheers Greg

powder coating is nice, but the reward from polishing is priceless...untill it gets wet.

I think its looking great Angel. I would keep going. Your almost there. BTW, there are also small shops that specialize in polishing things that may finish it to a mirror like shine for less than the powder coating. You have already done all of the hard work. When I got a quote on mine they wanted $20 per part but that was from a rough casting. I'm sure they would do yours cheaper because its so much less work for them.

Default Take 2

O.k. I've been completely unmotivated with my car because I took too much on at once. Interior, motor, suspension, etc. I started polishing my spider and wasn't happy with the pits on the legs so I stepped away from it for a while.

Anyway, Fabio suggested I get a second spider and put it on just to get the car running. I got one but I didn't have the heart to put just a stock one back on so I got it Powder Coated. I think it looks pretty good. I'll probably finish polishing the other one but at a much later date. Opinions?

It looks really good!

The spider intake is a work of art, wish the newer sharks had a similar intake.

^Definately agree with that, nothing screams german engineering than the spider.^

The powdercoated one looks awesome, I've seen a few pics of polished/chromed spiders and IMO unless you go full tit and spruce up the entire engine bay they can look a little out of place, of course that is just my opinion and ultimately I can't really afford to spruce up my entire engine bay at the moment so my opinion kinda means very little I must admit though, going from what my intake looks like to what the sanded down one at the top of the page looks like, seems like a fair amount of work, I'd say keep going at least because you've already gone so far lol

Want to sell the uncompleted one? You could clear powdercoat the polished one to maintain the shine.

John,
Hmmm. I don't know if I want to sell it quite yet. I bought yet another spider to see if I can get some less pitted legs. I prefer the polished look but give me a month. If I haven't done anything with it, I'll give ya first dibs.
