Default 1988 928S4 Idle problem

I recently purchased a 1988 928S4, automatic that sat off and on for roughly 7 years. I had the car up and running; but it recently has acquired an idle problem which will not let it run without pumping the throtle to keep it running. At that, the car only runs for a few seconds. I cleaned the battery terminals; vacuumed out the air system (was full of rats nest when I bought it). How do I determine if the mass airflow sensor or the intake air valve is bad I bought the repair manual disk; but we can not find the resistance readings for the mass airflow valve or the intake air valve. We are trying to check these without tearing down half of the engine. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find these values; or quick check tests for these items? I've changed the gas and added injector cleaner also. You can also call me on my cell at (860) 961-6777.
also, when driving, the idle hunts up and down about 8-900 rpms.

Usually when you have a car sitting that long, the gas becomes stale and clogs the injectors. You may need to remove the injectors and have them cleaned (BTDT). I doubt it's the MAF or ISV, neither one of those goes bad from just sitting. Also, if it was the ISV, you would be able to keep the car running with some throttle indefinitely.

When you get above the rpms that it stalls at, you have to keep the throttle open fairly wide to keep it running; but it eventually wants to stop like there's no gas.

One easy and quick way to tell if the injectors are partially clogged is to see if the car continues to run or runs better when starting fluid is sprayed down the intake. Be careful with that stuff though since it is very flammable.

tried that also. what does disconnecting the ground strap at the rear of the car have to do with resetting the computer settings for the car? I had one site that said that this sometimes resets the values for the isv?
