Default Momo Steering Wheel removal Help

That's right, at the end of the MM/OPG/St rack and Cam plug replacements, I'm stumped by a steering wheel. Sheesh..

But I'm avoiding destructive testing and need help in understanding

1) how to remove the horn button, without destroying it. This is a Race Evo Momo with the Porsche adaptor.

2) Also, I assume that a puller will be necessary to get the st. wheel off, Does the adaptor have threaded holes to support screwing in a st wheel puller? Or does a gear puller work better?

Thanks

I think if you remove the 6 screws on the front, you will gain access to a big nut (27mm?). Remove the nut and the wheel will come off the splines without a puller.

Undo the 6 small screws that holds the wheel to the 'boss' (adapter), horn button will come off with it... then you will see the nut that holds on the boss (can't remember size... 24-27mm??)
Undo nut and boss should just pull off.... if not, loosly screw wheel back to boss for some leverage.

What he said.
6 allen? head screws. Pull horn button assembly.
Unplug the 2 wire spades for the horn button.

27mm hex socket. Probably need a 4"? extension to reach the nut.
Hold on tight to the wheel as leverage to unfasten the 27mm nut.
Mine had a spring washer behind the 27mm nut.

Pull gently and the Momo wheel should be free.

Alright.....that is a help. Thanks.
What torque should be applied to the main bolt that holds the adaptor to the steering column, on reassembly ?

don't forget to disconnect your battery or fanfare(horn) fuse.

If wheel is hard to pull off, put the 27mm hexnut back on a few threads before making the big effort. The Baby Jesus likes to break your nose with that one.

If you don't want to take a chance on marring the allen screws, just push the rubber boot back and pop the horn button out from behind - it's a snap fit. Then you have access to the big nut and can take off the wheel. Loosen the nut but do not remove it. Then if the wheel is still stuck take a rubber mallet and tap on the wheel rim from behind. It will come loose and the nut will keep your teeth in place. I had the same wheel on my old 928, just not as dressy.

Thanks Mark; This reminds me of an altercation I had with my 81 Alfa Spider, while removing the steering wheel bolt and attempting to pull the wheel with a gear puller. After putting arm and shoulder into turning the puller finally met with exhaustion and a full stop, I stepped out of the car to exclaim frustration and grief to my poor wife...and then BAM! The steering leaped from the steering shaft and slammed into the seat back, right where my head had been a minute before. Very dangerous business we occupy ourselves with....

On my Momo strg wheel only 2 of the 6 allan screws fasten the button and rim to the wheel.

27mm socket is whats needed for the nut.

I have a momo race wheel / hub and it's hard to take off. After removing the 6 allen bolts and the 27mm bolt I reattach 3 or 4 of the allen bolts to the wheel and pull the wheel/hub off. The steering wheel gives you the required leverage to pull it off
Good Luck

This MOMO wheel looks similar in design to mine, in which case the blue ring surrounding the horn button, encapsulates the button.... therefore must be removed to disassemble the horn button...
